I bought this guy from another thread's recommendation, it's kind of cool because it has a remote where you can adjust the guidelines and mirror/flip without cutting wires. I told my buddy he could have it, I might just see how it is on his T4R.

I believe this is the same camera that FreshMexicanTaco sells in his kit. I will give it a try because yes the ABC camera I got is crap also. Mine has water inside of it messing up picture along with it being narrow and pointing downward.

 

It's on page 45 of this thread, towards the end. I soldered all my connections as I went, then screwed wire nuts over the soldered joint, then wrapped the nut in electrical tape to the wire. It's redundant, I know, but for the extra couple minutes of work, it's worth the peace of mind to me knowing that stuff will never vibrate loose back there and short out with something else.

It comes with a bunch of stuff in the box that's pretty cool. You get a plastic soft pry bar for loosening molding in your truck, a bunch of zip ties, and also some rubber wedges for mounting the camera. The rubber wedges are different thicknesses depending on what angle you want the camera mounted at. I actually put the thinnest of those rubber wedges on the top of the grill where the bolt screws onto, that way I wasn't torquing down the metal bolt onto my plastic grill.

 

Did it also come with the stupid nut that had a notch cut out of it? Mine appeared to be pointed down as well, but it really wasn't the pointed down problem that was the issue, it was that the field of view was extremely narrow so all you could see was pointed down. the camera that I bought off of Amazon is also pointed down, but the field of view is almost a hundred and eighty degrees so you see everything. If you look at the last picture I posted of it, you can actually see the front lip of my grill, but still see the ceiling above the truck.

that's pretty cool. When you say that you can "adjust" the guidelines, do you mean toggle them on and off like cutting the wire, or can you actually move them on the screen with the remote?

 

If you have the ‘20 taco, I would highly recommend a Nakita box camera and not a wedge camera. It looks more pleasing to the eyes when it can fit squarely in between the front grill like stock. All you need to do is to have a car fabrication shop to make you a bracket mount and drill 2 tiny holes on the back so you can just screw in those 2 tiny nuts on the back of the camera into the bracket and add washers to secure them and then buy 2 toyota screws from the dealer. It can easily be done nicely. For me I used the butt connectors and it gripped the wires quite firmed.

 

On/off or there's 3 height levels for the guidelines. I don't think you can move them around the screen.

It also has a complete nut, which is a novel idea.

 

Has anyone purchased the switch from ABC lately? I'm curious if the blue back lighting is the same as it was when I purchased my switch last year. My switch has a light blue back light that doesn't match OEM at all, but I saw a picture in this thread somewhere and the back lighting looked much closed to the blue from the stock switches.

 

I borrowed a few pics from your posts, but if you look closely you can see the blue behind the camera logo is different between the two switches. Mine looks like the second pic, but I'd like it to be a darker blue like in the first pic. Does anyone know if the current switch ABC sells is the darker blue? It probably would have been easier if I just emailed ABC now that I think about it...

I purchased mine a few weeks ago, and it is a light blue, but not quite as light as the OEM switches .

 

Both of the switches that I have tested come with that dark blue backlight. Looks very OEM. I need to send one back to him b/c I thought that I had a bad relay/switch/harness at first.

 

When did you purchase yours? I'm going to email ABC to ask if the newer switches are a dark blue, but I'm curious since @NEIPA27 just got his a few weeks ago and it was the light blue.

 

I preordered it back in Nov, then after the news released that he had it tested and working on Njdev’s truck he sent mine within days like middle of Jan? Then I received another one from him Feb 1st? His first batch I think

 

Okay great, thanks for the info! I'll email ABC and see what Brian says as I would much rather have the darker blue switch. I'll post what I hear back from him.

 

when i do it that way my head unit won't even power on.....still nothing doing it the other way.....i appreciate everyones help on this! I have sent messages to them 2x through their site and they haven't responded so i guess i'm just going to do a chargeback and throw it in the corner for now

 

Your wiring harnesses and attachment should look like this from the inside and have no loose wires (especially the 28-pin override harness... hanging wire should be pushed all the way back into its respective/assigned pin slot) and the ring terminals are attached to car metal body (e.g 10mm bolts on car body frame).
Remember 28-pin override harness connects to the gray connector and 28-pin video harness goes to the white connector on the back of head unit.

 

Not to be overly redundant, but to be sure, in at this picture, you DEFINITELY have the harness with the red and orange wires going to the plug with the red circle, and the one with the blue and grey wires going to the connector with the blue circle, and your head unit doesn't power up? The only thing I can think of is you got a bad wire harness, with a loose connection somewhere.
