Amy light I get from China I take apart and reseal. Knock on wood I've never had a leak. I stripped three screws in this 42 inch bar. Here's what I did since then

Minor concern...."huh....I can probably still grab it enough to get it out". NOPE

Increased concern. "I'll try packing it w a rubber gloves for extra grip". No

Frustration. "Let's try a drill bit or two followed by this cheap extractor kit thing." no

Anger. "let's run the Dremel on it instead." No

    Acceptance "Let's ask for help"

    Returned rage

Could you cut a slot into it with a dremel and use a flathead screwdriver?

Drill through the head and take it apart, you may have enough of the screw left sticking out to get it out with some vice grips.

The cutting wheel is too big and will eat at the black cover. These screws are pretty tough so I'm not sure I'll be able to use an engraver to make a notch. I didn't see any smaller cutting wheels at Home Depot.

Use a good extractor or drill through it.

Another option is to hammer in a bit into the head of the screw and then use an impact driver to back it out. Hit it a couple times with the trigger; don’t just hold the trigger.

    Or use reverse drill bits.

I've looked for left-handed drill bits and surprisingly the Home Depot guy knew what I was talking about but they don't carry them. Might have to order online.

Hate to say this but you may be able to get some at Harbor Freight. I can't stand that place.

I think this may be the next round of fun. Just need to find a good drill bit to shred through it.

No. Try the other two suggestions first because once you turn to this suggestion, you’re out of other options. Work your way up to this. The other two options I listed are easy to do and will most likely work if done properly.

I think they sell the individual easy outs from Irwin at HD. Vice grip the end and tap with a hammer as you back it out. I would do that before drilling the head off. We use air drills and fine carbide bits to drill out rivets prior to replacement. It takes a steady hand and just go slow. Like others have said, drilling off the head is last resort because you still have to get the shank and threads out of the hole unless you plan on replacing the nut-plate.
