I was the guy that suggested the ecu; based on the codes you had last time.

At this point, maybe start looking for rodent damage.

I remember when you first posted about this issue. I still think it would be worth paying your own trusted mechanic to replace the CPS. It's a fairly cheap part ($40?) and can be replaced in 10 minutes.

    Here's a video of CPS replacement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRlxVXjkUjA

It's great you have the extended warranty and I hope they get it fixed this time and it stays fixed . I would consider going to a different dealer .

I had the exact same thing happen to me on my 2015. After the second tow job and a service department that could not replicate the problem, I traded it in for a 2020.

Talked with the service advisor yesterday, and apparently things are leaning towards replacing the ECU again. They have opened another case with Toyota tech, and are hoping to find what the defect is rather than just replacing the computer and calling it fixed... again. Husband actually talked with him and forgot to ask for any codes.

Glad to hear you have some plan of action that solves your problem.

If you buy gas at the same place I would not do so for a while. I was thinking bad gas.

I’m not sure why they would change the computer if my problem was caused by bad gas..... 2 computers replaced in less than a year. I purchase gas from several different stations......

It was a theory that would have been inexpensive to test. Anytime someone suggests fuel pump, I suspect the fuel itself.

Gotcha, that would make sense. I imagine fuel pump suggestion was because of the recall on the ‘18-19 year models....

Says there was a voltage drop at the ECU. I'm assuming a bunch of resistance would affect fuel delivery but twice is kind of crazy. This is something every person on the planet will ignore and it pisses me off. Take the time to improve the continuity of the system first, then diag. I predict this will happen again because resistance develops over time and eventually destroys the system. (simple example is the green science experience on your battery)

Couple years back, my focus started running like crap. It was only 2 years old. My 17 year old son driving the car almost exclusively. Anyways, he was putting the cheapest gas he could find in it. We ran a couple tanks of Costco fuel trough it and that fixed it. I drove it when it was acting up and it felt like the engine was stalling and transmission was slipping and all kinds of s...uh things wrong. I really didn't think the gas was the issue, but it sure was.

Truck never skipped a beat or gave any indication there was anything wrong, all three times. Then start it up, and check eng/trac light are on, engine dies.....

Yeah, that sure doesn't sound like a bad fuel issue, or a fuel supply, injector etc. I am surprised they were changing injectors. Almost sounds like an EGR valve, something that may be sticking open when you shut the engine off.

The problem isn't the truck, it's the troubleshooting. I don't think they have figured out the problem. Replacing the ECU again is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

If the ECU is bad again, something is causing it.

You need someone else to look at it.
