As long as SpaceX is willing to fly into a firefight. We might have to work that into the contract. I mean we need trans somehow. It’s not like Blackwater is getting any government business again.

I had this guy, only it was a brand new Camaro on a private pay check. Also he was kicked out.

Not to beat up AF guys, again... but I’ve seen a few do this. Of course full disclosure, I also seen an Army BSB NCO do it once for a deployment. Not only were we staring like what the shit, their 1SG about stroked out.

Saw it downrange too. Usually Guard/Reserves showing up with no field gear and canvas luggage because their supply was unable to find A bags.

Wow, that seems crazy to me. Deploying with out supply providing enough bags?!

My eye used to twitch when guys had stuff attached to the outside of their assault packs or rucks. Everything inside the bag boys, that’s how you loose shit. Also, a neck pillow?! Maybe I’m unreasonable but a neck pillow hanging off your bag for a single flight down range was a pet peeve of mine.

Dude, I've seen folks show up to WAR ZONES with no armor, chem gear, weapon - nothing. "We were told at home station we'd have this all issued when we arrived."

Then we'd have to fly them off to Germany for a week to get fitted up.

Best of all were the reactions of the folks they were replacing who had to stick around an extra week because of that bullshit.

Wow... just wow. That’s why army guys (USAR, USNG) go to a mobilization center like Ft. Dix to train, qualify, get outfitted etc... that’s nuts.

The USAF made changes in 2005 to prevent that from recurring. Before then...it was hit or miss. AD had its shit together, but ANG sometimes was living life back in the early 1980s.

Case in point...a 60 year-old SSgt showed up downrange. 60. Had been a Guardsman for 40 years. Still liked doing it, sat in an E-5 billet for 30 years. No desire to change. He was a master telephone system mechanic (I mean genius level), but...wow.

He knew his shit technically, but militarily his brain was back in the dark ages. His first service weapon was a .38 special!!

    lol nice

We did some training at Hunter-Liggett in 2000. The NG range NCO there (SSG) had a 2ID (only out of Korea at the time) combat patch.

Back in the 90s I worked on AC-130's and MH-53J's. Some of those airframes were from Vietnam. They had a few places they had been painted on the side of them, La Drang, Ho Chi Min..that kind of stuff. We would joke that we could pull off the panels and find lost hardware older than we were.

I've spent a bunch of time at Liggett and Camp Roberts from 90-93 when I was with 7th ID...with a special trip to Los Angeles in '92 during the riots where I was the Task Force LNO to Central Bureau, LAPD. :)

I was with those guys in Cuba for UPHOLD DEMOCRACY back in '94. The Wing CC flew hundreds of hours in Vietnam and was an absolute BADASS!! Small, wiry guy, totally chill, disposition like a high school history teacher...but was also a cold calculating dealer of death 3000 rounds at a time.

    Great birds!

So there were some 2ID combat patches awarded in Korea between 1 APR 68 and 28 MAR 73 (check 670-1). Still an old dude but maybe 20 years younger than you think. I got my 2ID ssi-fwts in 03-04 with Arrowhead.

Yeah we assumed Vietnam era, wasn’t quite old enough for Korea.

Which unit? I was 3-2 from 99-10. Yeah I was there awhile.

Hmmm? I was 18th Eng Co. I don’t remember having a BN attached to the BDE? Was it for Samara? Absolutely not saying it wasn’t the case, obviously it was. Just don’t remember it.

Just seen you were also with us for Mosul. Man, just don’t remember that. That tour was also kind of a shit show for us so... I don’t recommend a goal of getting hit as a productive means of counter-IED patrols.

I think the CAV BN (1-14) might’ve had an EN unit attached? But thought they were a heavy construction unit. They were also quasi detached from the BDE.
