So I've read through most of the threads but one thing haven't been able to find is why most recommend cleaning, powerwashing, etc the underside before applying coating, especially for first time. What's wrong with just spraying it down with ff, right on top of dirt and grime and all? Especially a new vehicle that hasnt seen much mileage. If you look at their website and all of the industrial uses (pretty impressive btw), i somehow doubt they are scrubbing down farm combines, tankers, 18 wheelers, etc etc before spraying them down. Maybe im just being lazy and want to avoid the pre clean step but just haven't been able to figure out the why part.

IMG_20191008_145233266.jpg Since Salt and Chlorides are corrosive it's best practice to clean before applying rust prevention.

Why would you spray it over dirt and grime? It probably wont bond very well. You are going under your truck anyway, why not do it right first time.

You are dealing with toyotas' frame afterall.

    Good luck.

It is to get any corrosive chemicals off the frame. It takes 10 minutes at a self wash car wash place and by the time you drive it to where ever you plan to apply FF it will be mostly dry.

Farmers actually take pretty good care of their equipment. From what I’ve seen, they look for any excuse to break out the pressure washer. If you’re going to take the time to apply fluid film, it’s because you care at least a little about preventing rust. So you may as well clean it first.

That's the funniest shit i've read on awhile.

I'd never buy anything from a farmer without totally inspecting the shit out of it. Ever heard the term "farmered up" aka booger welds, stop leak, self tappers, bailing wire, zip ties , duct tape etc

I'm not saying all farmers do this, but with some a tube of grease was too much a hassle vs. grinding pivot points and bearings into dust

I didn’t say they made quality repairs. But as a heavy equipment mechanic, I’ve personally seen them go anal retentive with the cleaning. That’s what I meant. I’m just as surprised as you are, and I almost never have a good thing to say about farmers.

good point @stun gun - decided to email company to get their official view. Here it is:

"Thank you for your interest in our product. Fluid Film does not need rigorous surface prep but cleaning excessive dirt off the frame ensures the product can penetrate into the pores of the metal. A quick rinse and drying is all that is necessary for surface prep. Fluid Film can be applied on a damp surface but not wet (standing water). Most of our customers will wash the underside of the vehicle then use a fan or leaf blower to dry the frame."

Fluid Film has really stepped up their customer service since Mike Sweers became their CEO.

In the time you posted this, sent the email, and read the replies, your frame could have been rinsed and dried. But at least you got your answer

While you’ve got their attention, ask them how many cold pressed goats it takes to make 1 can of fluid film.
