I don't contribute here a whole lot but I have to tell you all that crawl control really pulled me out of some crap this weekend. I've always thought it was a little gimmicky and really jerky whenever I've tried it out here and there to practice for when I might actually need it.

This past weekend I was out hunting coyotes and got into some nasty, deep mud as I was cruising along. Usually 4H will get me through any muddy or sandy spots I've encountered in the couple years I've had the truck but this was different. The tires were sunk, completely and totally covered in mud and spinning freely. No traction whatsoever, it probably didn't help that my tires are running a little low on tread these days.

I figured before I got out in the mud and started digging I would try 4L and crawl control. It took a couple minutes but it pulled me out! Slowly but surely! It was amazing and I was pretty happy with it and not having to dig my way out!

I know, cool story bro, but I just wanted to share!

You ever use a 17hmr instead of the 22?

OP has 17 posts and a '17 truck. .17 HMR is destiny.

Nice! Glad it worked out for you. I bought an off road for several reasons. This is one of them, an extra tool in the tool box.

Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. And that’s why I chose the Off Road.

This literally doesn't make any sense. "tires were sunk spinning freely no traction at all"

Crawl control magically found traction in the mud.

    ok.

Excellent, I love it when technology actually works. I’m jealous, no place to off-road anywhere close to me if you don’t have a quad or side by side.

    None... yet.
Nah, nothing magical about it. It's a system designed to help in low-traction situations where careful throttle and brake control will help. OP couldn't get the tires to grab modulating the throttle himself, so he gave CC a whirl, and sounds like it worked in this instance.

A simple system worked as designed, and dude got himself unstuck without getting covered in shit. That's just a case of "it does what it says on the tin" in my book. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And there it is. The constant snark and a-hole behavior on pretty much every post or comment I've ever made on this forum. It's so predictable it's comical.

All I know is the tires were spinning freely in both 4H and 4L. The tires were completely and totally caked. There is NO WAY it was coming out of it and giving it more gas was just making things worse. I threw on the crawl control on the slowest setting and it very slowly pulled me out. So it seemed to work as it's designed. I'm no off-road expert at all, and the only reason I have 4wd is for chasing coyotes.

Personally it's worked for me in loose rock/dry dirt and sand, but not in the snow. I figure mud would be similar, but it looks like all it did was dig itself in deep enough to find some traction to get out. skinny pedal would probably have done the same.
