I'm still having engine surging even after downloading 1.05 87 performance and flashing it again. First I tried to flash back to stock and it said it was successful. Then I tried to start the truck and it just kept trying to start for what seemed like an eternity. I got a bunch of errors but I was then able to flash back to 1.05. My truck is driving like shit to be honest. It feels almost worse than stock and I'm supposedly on 1.05. I've been waiting for 2.0 to hopefully correct the engine surging, but it's getting to a point where I don't even want to drive it anymore. Should I try a 2.0 beta or does anyone have any other recommendations?

Edit: Video in the quote above shows the issue.

What year is your truck, what is your ECU ID? And does your truck fall into the TSB category for this surging? Because if it does you should get the TSB done.

If you flash, and don't shut the truck off after, it won't start.

Thanks for the quick message! It's a 2018 and I think it's 04A61, but I'd need to double check for sure when I get home tonight. I had Toyota apply a TSB in late 2018 for the shifting issue, but I'm not sure how to see what they actually did. The paperwork they gave me back then didn't have the actual TSB number on it.

I'm almost 100% certain I shut the truck off after I tried to flash the stock tune. It's possible I messed up, but I've flashed 1.05 about 7 or 8 times over the last 10 months and those were all successful and started right up afterwards.

    Okay 04A61 is that TSB.

And you're certain the 1.05 files you are using are NOT the very old ones that had idle issues back in December 2018?

    Do you have an intake?

Yeah, I deleted the files off my laptop and re-downloaded them very recently after you recommended that when I was posting about this.

I do have the TRD intake and exhaust. I have been starting to wonder if cleaning the intake could help resolve some of these issues.

I am also 04A61. I’m running the 19770 Beta tune and it is great. If you message dpippel (check post #56826) he will send you a copy of the file.some people say the tipin of this particular file is too much but a lot of us really like it. Check it out.

I have the same issue with my '18, also with 04A61. Been running the 2.0 19800 for a few weeks and experience the same surging. Didn't have the issue on 1.05.

I also intermittently have the issue on my 18 04A61 on 2.0 19800. It doesnt happen if i let the truck come up to operating temp before driving, but anything below that it can happen.

I love how all these people are just now saying they have an idle surge problem. Why didn't some of you email OVtune before about it?

There’s a lot of variables that will cause the truck to “surge” while idling. Most of these people are probably so paranoid that they think it’s automatically a tune related issue

I know without any doubt that idle surging happens on stock tune, can happen with A/C cycling, defroster on, etc, etc.

But there was a very old version of 1.05 that made it worse. (build date Dec 2018)

I've posted in this thread a few times asking for help diagnosing symptoms because I'm not sure if the tune is at fault or not. I didn't want to email OVTune and waste their time while everyone is waiting for the final version of 2.0. Apparently I should have just emailed OVTune and expected them to solve all of my problems, regardless if the tune is to blame or not.
