I think you may have mis-read his original post. He was saying it is easier to open the RTT now that it is mounted on the diamond back. Not that he could open the diamond back with the RTT mounted on top of it.

I get the fact that you don't intend to open it. If you never have any intention of using the DB, why go to the trouble of mentioning you have a lift to remove it and that you can use it as usual? If you'll never open it, then it isn't as usual.

What you're saying is you paid $1600 for a sheet of hinged diamond plate that you can't open. The entire purpose of the Diamondback is to allow you access to the bed while protecting your goods. Why wouldn't you have just gotten a sheet of metal from your local supplier and welded lateral bracing on it for $200-400 and forego the hinges? I'm caught up on the outlandish idea that you acquired a DB that you effectively don't use (at least not in line with its high-priced intended use).

Call me crazy. It just seems silly to me.

Let me rephrase: If you want to use the flipping thing (pun intended) you have to pull the damned RTT.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are lashing out a little here because you got embarrassed that you can't read. But if you are curious, A) I didn't pay retail, got it used B) Could afford to buy a new one every week and not feel it C) As I said in a previous post, can easily take the RTT on and off, and do, so I do use the utility of the folding DB when the tent isn't there D) Don't care in the least what you think about it and only am replying to amuse myself.

Now Dwight's face should absolutely line your signature block... I can't believe that I didn't catch that reference. And I claim to be an Office fan... smh. Thanks for the benefit of the doubt (despite the well deserved, patronizing tone). Long day. How much was your RTT? I assume you got a deal on that too.

Have you considered adding a spring to pull the rods into the engaged position? You'd have to manually hold the handle in the disengaged location to close it, but that might be less annoying than getting out keys.

Anybody on here know how to find FrontRunnerOutfitter load bars long enough for the Tundra? Been using the DiamondBack HD for a while and would like to do something similar to BattlecryTaco/LLOD. When I emailed Alyssa at FR she said they only have 58" load bars. This is made for the width of the Tacoma, I will loose 1/2 ft of real-estate on my cover if I get those short load bars.

    Any help is appreciated.

Maybe, mount them parallel to the sides of the bed? It might look silly, but then again, maybe not? Be different. Lol...

if you do go that route and decide to add or do a bed tray (not just load bars), then I think they have side rails (not sure if that’s the correct name for them) that can be combined to make longer sides for the tray. Sorry, I’m not sure if this is making sense. Ideas are just poppin in my head as I type and I’m not filtering, right now.

Edit: Another thought, have you asked them if they can custom cut the length you want?

I have asked them if they can custom cut, but they can not (will not?).

Thanks for the idea to rotate sideways. Not sure if that will work right in my scenarios. But I appreciate the thought.
Looking at the FR load bar connection to the feet, it looks like they can slide the feet laterally <---> till the ends of the bars. Can you tell me if this is how those load bars work? Maybe I can use the longest length (58") and still make good use of the width of the DB cover.

Man this thing is so handy. Installed cabinets in my rental house this weekend, but had to transport them all from Charlotte to Asheville first. Strapped the 7 foot pantry on top of the Frontrunner/Diamondback. Then carried all the cardboard home to recycle at the end of the weekend.

Yep, take your time with the tracks, you only get one shot at it, scary drilling holes. I lined mine up so there was even spacing from the sides of the DB, in retrospect I should have made them exactly parallel to each other. The diamondback is not a perfect rectangle due to the shape of the bed, but I dont move the load bars forward and back so it really doesn't make that big of a difference either way.
