Can you bump up the "max vol" setting?

I know toyota loves to lock stuff down. Part of what makes em reliable.. like apple.
BUT, wondering if there's a "hack" to get into the radio and adjust aux input and max volume.

You know, like turn it on, hold down these 2 buttons and enter the factory tune menu.. sumpin like that. I could do it on my old stereo, but that ran on windows.

 

uhhh you might blow your speakers...lol. if they're stock theyre paper cones and idk even know what the surrounds are made of...i wouldn't push em too hard....

 

They'd be fine besides, you don't "blow the paper" and they can be replaced. I just need a couple more dB for listening to radio with windows down. and the aux input is just pathetic. I've had 3 of these stereos now. This one seems the quietest. But probably just the engine/wind/tires vs the others.

 

idk after extended high volume use in my dad's 06 (same thing, windows down, need to crank it up...) they started to sound like crap after awhile...well, even more so. honestly the best bet would be an aftermarket stereo....do you have the regular non JBL deck?

 

Yea. I have the base "am/sat" stereo.

I really think the aftermarket double din stereo installs ruin the dash look, and my truck is so new. Maybe I'll get a single din and the little cubby hole if I can't stand it anymore. Extra cubby holes are neat.

But aftermarket stereos are always so junky... sounding that is. Sure they gots features, but they are beyond my capability (and apparently every one elses) to get them to actually sound as good or better than factory.

 

aftermarket stereos, for the most part, if you don't get the super cheap ones, are usually MUCH better sounding than stock...even if your running your stock speakers...the internal amp on the aftermarket HU is usually much stronger than stock...and cleaner sounding.

and tuning them isn't that big of a deal. if you don't know what your doing there's always the pre-set eq settings on most aftermarket decks...

 

What are you plugging into the aux that its not loud enough? I plug my ipod into that and I just have the volume all the way turned up on the ipod and its more than loud enough through the stock set up.

 

Sounds like you're using a weak source or don't have it turned up loud on the source.

The MAX setting can't be raised...that's why it's the MAX setting

An aftermarket stereo will make your stock speakers sing. Way better than the stock junk. If you're wanting to keep the stock headunit why not install an amplifier and new speakers?

 

I spent a $109 on a Kenwood deck from crutchfield & cannot believe how much better its sounds over the stock junk toyota put in my truck.

 

My Pioneer unit easily doubled the volume that the stock unit was putting out. Now I'm just waiting to blow out the stock speakers and replace them with something better.

you are nuts. right out of the box it sounds better than the stock. add better speakers and amp and BAM, you have a lot better system.
