Is it illegal to have Fog lights on with High Beams In Massachusetts ?? If you hard wire the Fog lights so you CAN turn on the Fog lights with the High Beams - will it fail inspection in MAssachusetts???

I ask because as I search or this online I can find both yeas and no answers to both questions - and/or nothing specific to MA.

    thanks!!

It is in Michigan, people still do it. I get blinded by inconsiderate people everyday.

Probably need to call an inspection station to get a good answer.
In Louisiana the law states no fogs on with high beams, but most inspection stations just look at insurance and registration and take your money, slap a sticker on it, done.

Idk about TX, most ford, Chevy and ram people drive with their lights bars on in misty rain which is illegal. No joke, I see it almost every rainy day either to and from gym or work.

I think it's pretty universal in just about any state. It is in mine. But we don't have inspections. So it's a moot law unless an officer cares enough to enforce it. But then again...if you're stupid enough to drive with your brights on around other people you kinda have it comin' to ya.

Driving with both fogs and high beams is basically worthless...remember that by switching on high beams in fog makes it worse, hence, FOG lights in conjunction with low beams.

It must be for “looks” to have fogs and HB on because from a functional and safety point of view it makes it worse for visibility.

I like to have the ability to have all lights on if the situation warrants it. Sadly the few bad apples make it necessary for manufacturers to prevent it.

Only if you're driving in fog. HB + fogs when off-roading at night are great.

When you are “off road” anything goes...the OP is asking about “on road”.

Isn’t that why they make LED light bars and ditch lights? I’ve have them and they are great driving off road through back country when I go fishing....very handy and saved my butt just a few weeks ago.

Had a Farrrgin Icehole blind me (and everyone else traveling behind me) 2 evenings ago with his light bar and high beams on. On a State route, no less with no need for the light bar or the high beams for that matter. Light bars are illegal in Ohio on dedicated roads as far as I know. I couldn't react fast enough to hit him back with my light bar to see how he liked it.

The OP made no mention of "on road" in his OP. As for light bars, etc., they're fine, but it would be nice to leverage the fogs that come stock on your truck if you don't want to spend the cash for add-ons.

People who drive with auxiliary lighting and high beams are the same people who blow up public toilets and marry Karen

-Short answer is it is illegal to drive on the road with both activated.

-It is also illegal to use fog lights when there is no inclement weather. (See how well this law works/is enforced)

    Why? because 540 CMR 22.02 references 49 CFR 571.108.

Long answer is there is also a couple exemptions. For use of auxiliary lamps and non compliant aftermarket lighting (spot lamps.) such as foul weather where visibility is severely impacted, blizzards ect. Or to read a sign.

Your best course of action is to not mess with the fog lights, maybe upgrade to LED as long as they are approved. Add a set of lights maybe something like the KC SAE approved driving lights on the bumper. tied into your high beam switch. Use only when you actually need to (blizzard). If you choose to do whatever else. Dim your highbeams/off-road lights for any approaching vehicle well in advanced. Even on the opposite side of the highway. No one should see your high-beams unless they are blacked out on the side of the road. Edit: Failure to dim highbeams falls under 540cmr.

If one asks about “the law” it’s on road.

Even worse in California as the law REQUIRES your off road light be covered while driving on a roadway. Is it enforced you may ask..... only if you give the officer a reason. Don’t give him/her a reason by using off-road lights on the road where others can view your truck coming at them.

    Work in progress...
My old 4x4ing friend is up in the big house for running fogs and high beams at the same time...that or tearing tags off of mattresses, can't remember.

Obviously he’s in California where they are out of control! But if you need dental work or an operation, just get arrested, you get 100% medical and dental the second you are arrested! Seriously, I’m not kidding
