should I just twist the wires together and try it or twist them and try to insert them into one of the connectors?

Just twist them together. They’re already cut and you’re gonna need to splice on the new pigtails anyway, so it’s not like you’re gonna damage the wires.

Ok so I got the connector and did a pig tail to the original wires. It solved the brake light issues, the stuck in park issue and the cruise control blinking issue. I haven’t checked if the CC engages yet FYI.

I have only had this Tacoma for roughly 8 months and it’s my first. I just want to say thanks to all you guys for the help. I’m still learning the ropes.

So... In hindsight, the rear brake lights weren't really illuminating when you pushed the brake pedal?

The rear lights were illuminating except for the 3rd brake light.

So, even with the cut wires, the brake switch still lit the rear brake lights, but did not light the 3rd brake light or trigger the shift lock ECU. Uh, OK.

Initially there was only 1 wire cut and only the 3rd brake litigation didn’t illuminate. Once I removed the switch the other 2 wires got cut off and only one was still intact. At this point no lights turned on.

The forum has to be one of the best benefits of having a Tacoma. Sucks you’re having issues this early in ownership, ignoring the rust mines been rock solid. Had a break pad stick yesterday that I was able to get to let go, but other than that nothing.
