I may get a second chance :). My weekender has ppf forward of the windshield, on the mirrors, and front 6” of roof. That leaves 2 doors, rear quarters, some roof, and back end. I probably have just enough leftovers of the ceramic to make it worth repeating the process but on my car this time. Probably worth doing the de iron on this one.

The car pro line is great stuff… so I read, only used this ironx though and it worked great. Before you do the process again go over to that car detailing forum autopia and read up on the steps/order they recommend. You can really get lost down the rabbit hole over there too

I used to follow a 911 guy over on, jeesh, can’t remember if it was reddit or a Porsche forum. Forum name was Money ‘something’. His routine wash and detail was something like 6-8 hours. Great still photographer too. Subject probably helped. :)

Definitely a rabbit hole. I probably spent upwards of $800 on my initial stocking of cleaning supplies when I bought my Macan. Thankfully, that hit only happens once. Then you’re on the maintenance plan.

I get it, it’s therapeutic. But damn, he either has no kids or that’s his only hobby

Looks really well done, good job.

People don't believe me that with a Random DA polisher (even the cheap ones),
one of the many compounds and polishes out there and an afternoon,
you can make your truck look better than new.
Makes it real easy to get a near professional job done. Hard to screw up too with a random DA.
If your finger nail does not catch on the scratch you can easily take it out quickly with a DA polisher.
In fact it's safer and less aggressive than doing it by hand.

After I spent 2 days on my truck,
I added another day's time and ceramic coated it too.
    Waxes just don't compare.
202 black shows and magnifies every flaw...

    I fo
l followed a blog over in the Blue Room for a while. Guy was wanting to restore a ‘40 and make it an off-roader. Turned into a major rabbit hole. Each time he wanted something, it was the best and the support system didn’t support it. He ended up teaching himself to weld and bought all the gear and built a full-on caged crawler if I remember right. Turns out he was a surgeon with an active OCD. :). Like many of us. 2-3 hours a night for a year or two. He blogged that his wife finally said “you can finish this project, but no more for 5 years”. I paraphrase of course. He finally posted some pics and video and it was a pretty darn impressive rig for first time out of the box. He sold it and went back to his happy life I think.

Lesson being, be careful what your obsessions lead you too.

Just be careful correcting a Tacoma. Clearcoat is extremely thin and you only have so much. Once it's gone, it's gone.

did you mean hydro charge? you were talking about a spray on product. hyrdoslick is a thicker liquid, shown to be applied as "dots" on a pad. Ski

that looks great ! One thing I learned from Mike Phillips was to watch the backer pad. I realize now why I had limited success starting out and why I had to “redo” several areas. The pad wasn’t spinning ! Beginners mistake, but I went back over the car and I have zero swirls

This stuff. I was using Meguiars ceramic spray , but it sucks. The Chemical Guys stuff is 1000x better. I applied it with a regular microfiber towel and spread out a thin coat

Sounds like something I would do. I think it’s more about always needing something interesting to do :)

Great if the hobbies keep you at home too, higher percentage of approval with the wife

I asked Mike Phillips about this. He said using a DA with the products isn’t an issue.

I was warned to watch edges however. He also recommended a smaller pad.

I’ve gotten pretty handy with the Bauer DA I picked up. I’m using $h1t pads from Harbor Freight too lol
