Engine stuck in high Rpm situation?

My son drove my truck last night, he said the truck revved up to 6K and stayed there, the only way to back it down was to shift into manual mode and than up shift to 6th gear. He says it has happened 3 or 4 times in the last month or so when he is driving it.

Trying to figure out if I have a real issue, or if the son is the issue. He is used to driving much higher performing vehicles and would not surprise me that he is hammering the truck around like his skyline.

But still, has anyone had this issue?

So, when using S mode (manual mode). He is likely putting it in 1st or 2nd. This makes the truck stay in 1st or 2nd and will not upshift.

 

Operator error, take your son for a drive and let us know what happens.

 

I guess he needed to feel those torques.

 

Toyota says its normal.

Dude, get in the passenger seat and have him show you how he's driving it. I guarantee you won't make it out of the neighborhood before you have to tell him to knock it off.

Wow, might want to check the rear tires. I bet the fronts have 50% more tread. I used to tell my dad;
"that my brother did it, not me".
