What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Seems like a waste on the ball joints honestly.

 

Is Valvoline maxlife good atf for an a340 behind a v6? Its what i used on my tacoma and it was still going strong at 290ishk but is there anything better?

 

I was going off your post about drinking bolt heads.


I guess if you’re out and about, away from civilization often being little extra isn’t bad.

 

Kinda like how holes in uojnts make them weaker would these bolts snap easier?

 

I've never had my bolts back off or even loosen the slightest bit so I'd tend to agree. But there are folks on here who don't seem to own a torque wrench, don't know how to use a torque wrench, or just straight up never check their equipment... Who also wheel a lot. Seems like it might be a viable option for them... They know who they are

 

What beef have i missed here

 

Routing safety wire on the balljoint would prove to be a pain in the ass since there’s 4 there and the joint is in the middle. Only thing I ever have had to safety wire is 2 piece rotors.

 

Typically I see it done on socket head cap screws (Allen bolts) and they go through the part where the Allen key goes so it isn't a worry. But plenty of racers do it on normal hex bolts too so probably up to a certain clamping force it isn't a worry. Bolt heads are usually way more stout than the threaded parts anyway

 

The hole wouldn’t worry me at all. Just a bitch setting up the wire around the joint without it impeding the Joint

 

I know that the threaded shaft snaps when lbj bolts fail and not heads shearing off

i just figured given the topic it was appropriate to be unecesarly argumentative

 

Shouldn't have any problem doing it in a square pattern around the edge, they just have to pull on each other alternating sides.

 

Here is what I actually did on my first gen, today.. the ultra deluxe and luxurious oem cloth dual sun visor upgrade!! My base cab had some worn vinyl that didnt even want to stay up any longer.


Aahh the feel of genuine oem cloth on my fingertips, the nifty slide out flaps to protect me from the suns harsh rays..

and a passenger side mirror for my lady all installed with just four good old fashioned phillips head screws.


Life just gets better all the time, when you live in Tacoma World!

Fun note, I was having fun at the dealer the other day harassing the parts guy to appease my endless Tacoma desires at the time, and found out there is one last 2002 stock bench seat cover in charcoal left in the country currently in Kentucky I think it was! It was only about $700... I didnt get it and have since traded my bench for buckets at a salvage yard.

Hope your plans work out for you, and I'd like to see this installed for more detail if you can share!

Whoa, first time I have seen an oem part from Korea..

 

wont be installed from a while. the trucks no where near done. i was hoping to find a third. but no line on one. going to see if my local hydrodipper can match the pattern and we'll just do it over some chrome ones. we'll see

 

Have fun with that when it's time to change a CV on the trail.
