A/C Issue on wifes car...

We took our trip to Arkansas and got back yesterday. About 800 miles into the trip, the A/C started acting up (around Lafayette). The fans were blowing low and making an odd noise. I popped the hood and found the hoses frozen where you add freon. We went eat and the hoses were back normal. Turned on the car and the fans blew normally. The air, however, was blowing warm. I stopped at Walmart and bought a freon/gauge and put it at the correct level.

Now! When I turn on the car and keep it in park, it runs fine. When I throw it into gear, it sounds like the compressor is stalling. I read online it may be the belt. Any ideas?

Have the A/C diagnosed and/or serviced by a qualified/certified mechanic.....

 

What kind of car is it?

Frozen lines is usually a hint that the expansion valve is stuck/clogged. As for the compressor stalling, it sounds like it might be something electrical or the compressor clutch is failing.

I agree taking it in to get diagnosed is the best thing to do. AC systems are pretty simple, but also can be dangerous to work on if you don't know what you are doing.

 

We're going to take it in during the Thanksgiving holidays.
