2020 guys how you liking your transmission?

You must know how stupid that advice is, given how precipitously the value falls the moment you drive it off the lot. Who in their right mind is willing to lose many thousands of dollars on a deal like that? Don't be ridiculous. The only acceptable solution is for Toyota to finally fix these damn problems.

 

They are not problems. They are engineering decisions you may not agree with. Most people don’t notice or care about the way the automatic transmission works automatically. On TW we’ll write essays on the subject, but no one else cares. It’s a echo chamber in here. Toyota hasn’t fixed this problem because in their mind, it’s not a problem, it’s a choice on how they feel the truck should operate.

 

Holding 4th or 5th gear on flat highway is not an engineering decision, at least not an intelligent one. Besides, there are other issues with these trucks besides bizarre transmission behavior. Mine vibrates severely while cruising at speed and while decelerating/braking. Are those engineering decisions too? You guys are ridiculous.

 

I’m not ridiculous, nor am I more than one person. You may not agree with, or respect Toyota’s engineering, but that’s what it is. They aren’t working on fixing it, because it operates exactly how they want it to.

 

You can embrace whatever incorrect analysis you wish, it's not going to change the reality that many 2020 Tacomas are severely flawed.

In any case, you'll clearly never admit your wrong, so I'm going to keep reminding you guys that you don't speak for me or my experience with my truck.

 

This isn’t a religion, nor am I defending Toyota’s choices. You just have to realize these are design choices they have made. The 2020s do not operate significantly different than the 2016s because they are still operating according to Toyota’s design. You may not like the design, but you are going to be waiting a very, very long time for these “problems” to be resolved.

This is my first Tacoma so I can’t really compare it to older models... I don’t have any hunting issues or concerns with tranny.

I traded in my '18 SR5 Access Cab on a '20 TRD Offroad. It really does feel to me like the transmission is smoother, hunts less, and is overall improved over my 18.

 

It’s amazing to me that the severely flawed Tacoma is the best selling mid-size pickup in North America. Guess peeps are rEtArDeD after all.

 

I don’t think every Tacoma is within specs. Clearly they’ve had supplier and factory quality control issues on various aspects of the generation.

My 2017 drove great around town. I didn’t like it much at 75mph on cruise control. I’m pretty sure my experience wasn’t by design.

 

Dude, the truck operates exactly as it was designed to operate. It might not operate exactly how YOU want it to operate, but that in no way means that it is "severely flawed"... No one is belittling anyone else. You are just wrong in this instance, and you are being ridiculous... Stop being ridiculous.

 

Or maybe your truck doesn't do it? I can go be on a flat highway at 75 with ACC on. Holds 6 gear... hit a slight incline and downshifts to keep speed up. Whatever... but then once its back to the same flat highway it SITS in 4th gear at 3500. I suppose it's ridiculous to expect it to upshift again after its back on level ground.

 

Why are people surprised that a 26 speed auto trans will spend much of its time shifting. LOLOLOLOLOL

 

Dr. Stocklocker prescribes 35” tires, stock gearing, to keep the revs down.

 

Or just pay $700 ish and get it OV Tuned. Problem solved. No more waiting around.

 

So it was wrong when it was at 2K in 6th right before that hill?
