Anything welding

It's bolted to thin metal at the frame ends. People who have mounted plate bumpers to the same spot without any extra reinforcement have bent those thin plates with light pulls.

 

I expect so which is why I'm stipulating light duty non truck weight, not more than front axle weight really. I can lift 100 lbs if I've had my wheaties but not 1000 and it would be nice to have hoist ability at either end.

 

I'm with @teamhypoxia, on this. I think it would bend

with the crash bar being Aluminum, you would need an aluminum receiver.

No, i just assumed one would use square stock to make it or if the right size wasn't available make it from two pieces of right angle plus a wrap and I'm sure it would bend if I tried to pull more than 1k or didn't reinforce it some. So far it seems the only use anyone considers is for moving the truck rather than using the truck as the anchor to move something lighter. I've seen aluminum extension ladders coupled with a portable hoist to raise loads and those are much thinner than the crush bar.

 

Why not make a receiver hitch to attach to the 2 tie down Tow hook location not that hard and stronger

 

I can’t imagine that perforated 1 x 2 is stronger than the crush bar.

Hello, just got a welder for Christmas, Hobart 210 MVP. Been practicing every weekend for like an hour at a time. Just figured I could post some welds and get some criticism. Don’t have 220v yet, but this is the highest setting on 115. Overall goal is to SAS on my Tacoma. Thanks.

yea I noticed the mig tacks, was hoping that was just gonna be to hold it together until it got tig welded, oh well haha. Nice fitment

Very good start.

1st, I think you need to reduce the amperage. To me it looks like the base metal is getting gouged out and not enough wire is being deposited.

2nd, turn on your camera flash. The pics on my end are a little dark.

Might be travel speed to fast output just not dialed in just right .

Not spending enough time in the toes of the weld.

Doing the SAS the welding is easy the hard part is keeping everything square .

So many end up going down the road sideways the first time

 

It has happened since the first Flame and then Arc was struck I doubt it ever stops .

Though I know some Welders that should never attempt to ever do any fitting

 

It seems to work quite well for me . Having used only 2 bolts 1 side to recover more then a few times

I guess it would be possible to tear the front of the frame off the truck.

Then the front end of a 2wd drive truck might very well be different then what I have ever seen .

Never having seen a 2wd Tacoma up close and in person

It's way too much welding for me to have someone else do it. I can't afford to pay someone a bunch of money to weld up some temporary pipes. This is one of my intercooler pipes, I'm making them out of steel since that's all I can weld at the moment. I'm saving up for a tig machine and I'll redo these out of aluminum once I have it and switch to a bigger intercooler.

Like I said I'm not happy about it either lol but hey gotta work with what you got.
