This sounds like a case of Post Hoc Fallacy which translates to "Since event Y followed event X, event Y must have been caused by event X.". Just kidding but it does sound like what others are alleging.

One easy thing you can try, is to reset learned values and perform the idle learn procedure, if you have not already. Especially considering your issue is idle related.

    Idle Learning Procedure:
    1) bring engine to operating temperature
    2) Flash Tune / or reset values if already flashed
    3) idle truck for 5+ minutes with all accessories off (a/c, blower, etc.)

Are you running a dry or oiled air filter? If oiled, clean your MAF sensor and make sure not to over oil the filter. Just trying to think of some off hand issues you may be having aside from the tune itself. FWIW, I had issues with one of the 1.05 files which resulted in idle surge like you are describing. The idle learn procedure did not resolve the issue as it was tune related, but these files were only available for a short period of time. I am also on the 04b04 build, so different ecu all together.

I posted that because Mat may not always see all the posts of this thread, and he always says if you have an issue with a tune to email him so he is aware of it.

Ya’ll discussing idle surging... definitely try the proper idle learning procedure @SC4333 just shared. I flashed my 2018 04a61 truck cold and then let it idle.. had surge issue.

I tried again with the engine at temp and bam! no more surging.

Thank you very much for the detailed write up about the idle learning procedure! I gave the 2.0 beta a shot tonight and so far things have been running extremely smoothly. With that being said, things ran very smoothly for about a week after I last flashed 1.05. If I start getting the surging issue again I will redo the idle learning procedure.

I have the TRD intake which I believe is an oiled filter but I haven't pulled it out to look at it's condition yet. I did put several hundred miles on a very dusty off roading trip this last summer and quite a few miles on forest service roads the rest of the year, so I think it definitely needs to be cleaned or replaced. I'm thinking about replacing it with a dry filter. I just need to do a little more research to find the correct one.

the older 1.05 I had did it(never on stock), when I went to 1.05.1 I no longer saw any surging. (04B04) Been on 1.05.1 since its
    release and zero issues.

Put the stock dry filter in - it works perfectly and you'll be confident your engine is getting clean air without any potential risks.

Ok I miss days on checking this page so it is hard to keep up. I have 04b04 and am running the 91 stock exhaust. I have URD Spec-U exhaust with the rear cats removed could I run the catted dump tune to get more power? No I don’t have the catted dump tubes. Thanks for your time

My truck is still in stock gears with 2016 auto 35s, ~3” lift with the exhaust, TRD “performance” intake. The truck is super fun to drive around town but highway hurts. Getting gears in about 3 weeks and going to 5.29s but i missed the 5.29 tune by 2 days when I saw the bata come out for it.

Matt thanks for all that you have done can’t wait for the 2.0 final and twin snails when they are available.

What a strange comment. There are multiple reasons why I'm "just now" stating that I have an idle surge issue. I didn't post about the surge issue looking for help or implying that the tune was at fault. Simply stating that I've experienced the same issue and I happen to be running the 2.0 beta. It could be ANY number of things causing the idle surge. As for why I haven't emailed OVtune about it, that's pretty simple. It's a beta tune. I have no expectations of assistance or a 'fix' until the 2.0 GA release. Do I think OVtune would reply if I opened a ticket with them, absolutely. However, given that OVtune is inundated with support requests as it is, I am inclined to wait for the 2.0 final before suggesting that something isn't working quite right. As previously stated, I have no evidence that the tune is at fault, but it is the only obvious thing that has changed with my vehicle. One could argue that OVtune needs as much data as possible to definitively rule out the tune and if they're looking for that, I'm happy to be another data point.

This thread has been a wild ride fraught with OVtune crusaders when none are needed. OVtune has delivered a product that no one else has been willing or able to for these vehicles. That alone is commendable. Couple that with continuous improvement not only with the tune, but furthering the entire platform is honestly incredible.

Yeah..I didn't post about it either, nor submit a ticket. I didn't find it to be a large issue, I just stumble across the solution while waiting on a bootscrap script to run.

I successfully placed my order 10 biz days before he announced the fulfillment issues and saying they're out of stock until further notice.

I imagine he wouldn't be selling products he doesn't have in stock... ?

We have enough handhelds to cover current orders and are setting them up. They come to us blank, so we have to manually update, and firmware load each one.
