Since you aren't sure why Gus will never be good enough for Auburn, here are some facts (good and ugly) that have occurred during the Malzahn era that stand out to me, an Auburn fan. Some Auburn fans are infuriated by these facts and are ready to see Gus in the rear view despite the 'good times'. Some Auburn fans are ok with what is going on but I would say are a minority. As I see it, are you doing enough to keep your job? yes. Should you improve? Yes.

Auburn under Gus caught lightning in a bottle in 2013 and with new found swagger from the single most embarrassing season the year before and a lot of luck found itself almost* national champs.

Auburn has posted 2 bowl wins during his 7 year tenure. Those two wins were the 'lustrious Birmingham Bowl (Memphis) and the Music City Bowl (Purdue).

Gus has never had a losing season at Auburn. At worst 7-6 in 2015.

Gus hasn't had a major scandal during his tenure. *That we know of.

Jarrett Stidham digressed in his second season under Gus.

Auburn under Gus is responsible for the whole UCF fake ass national champ shit everyone had to endure. Sorry yall.

Auburn under Gus had one of the most memorable finishes to a game in college football history.

Absolute head scratching losses: georgia in 2015 and 2016, LSU in 2017, miss st and tenn in 2018. In my book, none of these games should have been lost and I place all blame on coaching by Auburn. Refs had nothing to do with any of it.

Absolute head scratching wins: Jacksonville St 27-20 (OT) in 2015, I would've rather seen Jack St win this game.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Gus offensive identity: Gus's protege high school QB Rhett Lashlee tandem will call the plays, Works pretty good first two years, no wait we need to turn it over to Rhett to call the plays since he's the OC, the OC doesn't call the plays, Gus calls the plays, no wait, Gus is turning it over to the OC 100%, no wait that was a mistake Gus is calling the plays again, no wait let's hire a new OC and he's going to call the plays, no wait let's game plan with the OC and Gus won't meddle but he's really meddling, (Who's calling the plays? Ask me and my wife we can call them from the couch), no wait let's hire a new OC who will be involved with the game plan but Gus is going to call the plays because giving up play calling was a terrible mistake, Go 9-4 one year OC goes to fsu, no wait, let's hire Chad Morris to be the new OC and give him 100% control of play calling (Narrative to be seen this fall however that plays out which I hope is good but I have my doubts).

Who else of the sitting coaches in the SEC has beaten the almighty Saban the most? Gus Malzahn. 3 times. In the SEC right now that is the standard with the exception of the rise of LSU this year.

Good recruiting? Yes but what is happening with the talent? Hmm, kindof like everything else, some good some who knows?

So overall, if you like to be a middle of the pack team with occasional moments of greatness, ok with a losing record in bowls, embarrassing head scratching losses (some against a major rival) including a group of 5 school claiming a national championship bc you shit the bed, and don't get in trouble with the ncaa? Gus is Auburn's inferior version of Frank Solich at Nebraska. Not bad, not great, frustrating? yes. Is that the standard west virginia would like for their program?

Gonna be a big edit to that if they make significant under a true sophomore QB next season.

Auburn under Gus historically says one of two things; 1) More of the same offensive identity probs with an 8-5 year and a bowl loss to a Big 10 team OR 2) "It makes significant under a true soph QB" and gets to the SEC champ game or wins the SEC? I won't be going back and editing anything. The past hasn't changed. A successful season would possibly mean Gus has learned from mistakes and righted the ship.

Scott Linehan replacing Joe Brady...not sure my feelings on that. I still think Ensminger was the unsung hero and glad we still have him.

    Head unit. That's it.
    Tua done effed up.

Reports coming out stating that Cincinnati is now also looking at Tua.

I'd put money on them taking Joe Burrow, even still... I bet the Bengals are like 99% Joe, 1% Tua.

    totally unrelated...

but @JimBeam since you're our favorite moderator...

the banned members memorial thread leaves so much to be desired. I wish we could see what people are getting banned for, like the actual posts! I know it won't, and probably shouldn't, happen because that stuff doesn't need to stay visible but sometimes I just wish I could see what the picture/post/message was lol.

    ok back to football...

We don’t claim Houston. Nothing good ever happens in Houston, get out as soon as you can.

p.s I’m in Houston this weekend too.
