Possible Wildpeak issues?

No way tires of this age should show cracking like that. Such cracking is normally a tell tale sign that tires need to be replaced. Go back to whoever you purchased them from and they should warranty them out and you should get a new set for very little based on your limited tread ware. If they push back I'd (1) tell them to contact the manufacturer while you stand there and listen to the conversation, if they won't make that contact for you or you get an unsatisfactory answer from the local distributor then I'd (2) contact the tire manufacturer directly for satisfaction (a set of tires is way cheaper for the manufacturer than a blow-out-related accident lawsuit, especially if you've notified them of the problem via mail, email, etc.) and (3) never do business with that tire dealer again - there should be no push-back, they should go to bat for you.

 

I have 43k on my SL wildpeaks that look better than yours OP. Take them back and get something else.

 

Something just seems off with this post. There is no way tread can be that low with only 5K....also 5K in almost a year of owning? Which means the truck sat a lot in the elements?

 

Not unrealistic. I put maybe 10000km on my truck a year if that. only really drive to work and back

 

These tires start at 14/32. After a year or aprox. 10 months I drove 5k miles. I have 11/32 now. My commutes are short so that is why I have low mileage but I still drive every day. The truck is outside but they shouldn’t be dry rotting like that.

 

Agreed. Obviously direct sun will have an effect, but the guys that act like keeping it parked outside is the sole issue, are retarded. It would also be a dumb business move for a tire manufacturer to have a design with the expectation the vehicle is kept in the garage, use some common sense. All my vehicles have been kept outside, several years in HI sun which is known to have higher UV. Couple years in NJ and even more in WA. All of which are on the coast, NJ having fairly extreme winters and summers. Last truck was in MT (before upgrading) for several years, never had an issue. I ran mostly Nitto’s but really any tire should be able to handle all these conductions for at least a couple years. Why? Because it would be the low expectation from a business perspective. Something is wrong here, likely the batch considering at least a couple have stated theirs are about as old without these issues. Replace them OP, either a different batch of Wildpeaks or another brand.

 

Define harsh climate. Your tires look clapped out besides the cracks.

I've had great experiences with Wildpeaks. Had them on 2 previous 4runners.

The Falkens on my Taco have 10k miles and have very little wear.

 

They have seen -30 and 100 degrees

 

Have you checked out tire specs on tiresize.com ? shows you a good selection of tires and their specs.

 

I'd just go back to your installer and complain about them. You gave it a shot, it hasn't worked out like it should have. I can't see anything you could've done to cause this. My truck is outside always and I tow a ton, mine still look better than yours.

I don’t understand why everyone likes bfg’s. There everywhere. I can’t go two miles down the road and not see 3 trucks with those tires. Father in law has them in his third gen and they ride like shit. Also on his f150. Also rides like shit. I don’t get it. Speaking on the at’s by the way.

 

BFG has $150 credit if you buy a set of 4 today and tomorrow. Your dealer sho UK ld be able to hook you up with a set of those for a really reasonable difference.

I have the BFG KO2 load range C LT265/70 17 and really like them. Ride is smoother than load range E and not as big of a fuel hit while still being tougher than P rated tires.

 

Retards will jerk off over raised white letters and feel like their choice is proven to be the best because they paid 50-100% more than those idiots buying tires that do the exact same thing; hold the truck off the ground and roll.

 

I blame the 3rd gen automatic transmission.

3/32 in 5k miles. That seems excessive. I'd be taking them back, regardless of the cracking.

Are you carrying a crazy amount of weight in the truck? Camper, towing, armor?

Edit: Assuming consistent wear, they'll be bald by 23.5k miles

 

Pretty much a fully stock dclb with just a 2.5 front lift and a single aal in the rear.... never towed anything either.

 

They are listed at 14/32 new but they are actually 13/32nd. A lot of tires are like that. The first couple 32nds burn off pretty quickly and then wear slows down after that. Generally speaking.

I urge everyone to check their tread depth after mounting new tires rather than going off the manufacturer specs.

 

5k on my LT285/75R16 AT3W. Picture was initially showing how bad my pinch weld eats up the tire lol...
