I'm glad I went with 285/70/17s. The fabricator that did the CMC told me it's added stress to the suspension and brakes and isn't worth it in his opinion. I liked the stance, feel of the road and traction that I get out of them. I'll deal with putting on new brake pads a little earlier than expected for the added benefits of a larger tire.

My thoughts ... a few less miles per gallon driving with 285s are barely noticeable when filling up. Winter and summer temps will also always factor in for MPG. It’s a Tacoma ... not known as a fuel saver. What truck is? Bigger tires are what sold me on my Tacoma. Make the choice when you need new tires. A few inches of level/lift probably won’t require any cutting or trimming. Have fun and enjoy your daily driver!

Really considering 285/75/16 ,do they drive - ride better or worse than the stock tires ,trying to get full details on weight and drivability, good and bad points of 285s vs 265s .

Moved up to 17” wheels (FN’s) and 285.70.17 KO2’s. And yes I needed to do a little trimming

So many tire threads on here, but wondering, where do you have 'em shipped. To a local tire shop to havem puttem on for you? Or you ship 'em to your apartment / house and then bring 'em to the shop?

Ride is firm, but it’s a truck! I have few inches leveling. Bigger tires (KO2s/ 285.75.16s) seem to do good all around. I live in Black Hills of South Dakota. Great in snow and great out hunting. I’m an occasional off-road driver. Have not had any issues through creeks, mud, rocks, snow, ice. But I baby it through most bad spots. Heavy off-road drivers might see things differently than I do.

I ran 285 KM2’s on stock truck. Trimmed a little plastic. Rubbed just shy of full lock. MPG dropped 1 MPG but that wasn’t adjusted for increased diameter so it was probably a wash. Drive about 120 miles a day 5-6 days a week. The e rating with stock billies was what killed it for me. Shocks couldn’t dampen the heavy MT’s. I have 4.3 gears which was ok. Cruising in 6th was good. Had to downshift to 4 or mash 5 (285’s) where I could power through 6 with 265’s.

Just put on 265 SL’s now and love how it rides, hate how not knobby they look.
