Anyone want 650lb bilstein springs? Just pay for shipping and they’re yours.

After debating the merits of coilovers and getting some helpful insight from the guys in the ADS thread, I've decided this is gonna be the lift for me and my needs when it comes time to upgrade.

I do have a question though: I read that an Upper Control Arm is essential for getting maximum travel in the front, albeit this was written by a gentleman with a 4Runner. Does the same hold true for the Taco or can I forgo the UCA? I dont want more than 1.5" of lift in the front so I know I dont *need* it, but I'd be willing to pony up if it means I get the extra travel. Then I'd have it done if/when it comes time to swap coilovers down the road when the Taco isnt my DD/Work truck a decade from now.

Also, how is this kit with a three leaf AAL (with and without Overloads in)? I've been eyeing full packs but I cant beat an AAL's price.

 

Is is 100% necessary.....no, for an extra 1.5""s in the front with the already 1 inch stock lift you have over the 2nd gen taco's is it recommended.....yes. It will give you more articulation and less wear and tear on your ball joints. There are a number of ones people have gone with whether it was SPC, icon, TC etc. Personally, I went with the JBA's for the price, the added caster, and the fact that they are rock solid. They also use removable Moog Ball joints. If you are "going to do it right," then you should install them while installing the coil overs since you already have everything taken apart in the first place. Some people take the UCA bolt out by folding over the pinch weld. Personally, I cut out the old ones and purchased new OEM UCA bolts and nuts from the dealer and reinstalled them from the back going forward towards the front of the truck.

The AAL is a good option for lift without wanting to add more weight in the rear. If you want to eventually add more continuous weight, go with a full leaf pack. Buy once, cry once. Lol

 

I do have a SnugTop rebel for constant load. Will someday get around to adding a Prinsu rack as well. Tools are occasionally in the bed if camping gear isn't, so maybe a replacement pack is the way to go. What are good replacement packs that pair well with the Billies? Would an AllPro leaf pack work with it?

And another question: Does this kit require the use of bigger bump stops? Should I expect the possibility of needing a driveline shim kit/diff drop/etc? Or have most installs been problem free afterwards?

 

As leaf packs go, all pro isn't known for the weight, more for the lift. You can go the normal route and get OME medium dakar leafs or icon RXT leafs. Just a heads up, most leaf packs will eventually squeak over time so fluid filming them 2x a year is a good thing. Make sure you grease the bushings really well as well.
Regarding bump stops, you can upgrade or not, it is your preference. I had my leafs and 5160's on for a year with the factory bump stops before I upgraded to Tembren's.
Regarding driveline vibes, every tacoma is different. It many depends on your type of tacoma ie REG Cab, AC, DCSB, or DCLB. Most people start with a carrier bearing drop and go from there. What type of tacoma do you have? It is best to figure out your driveline angles pre and post lift to focus on correcting any vibes if you happen to get them. Stay away from the front diff drop, they tend to cause more headache then help. Some people do it and some don't. I didn't and recognized it wasn't necessary.

 

My stock leaf springs already squeak so that's no shock to me! I already forgot about the RXT's and I've heard good things about those. I prefer rake while empty and level when loaded instead of level when empty and lean when loaded, since I'll be loaded more than empty.

Glad to know the bump stops are not super critical.

My truck is an Access Cab if that matters.

 

The RXT's might be right up your alley since you can adjust them by taking leafs in and out. Most with AC's experience some small vibes but the RXT's might remedy that on a level 2 setting with a carrier bearing drop.

 

Anyone in here running this with actual armor, winch, full skids and slider?

hell I have bounced around 60+ pages and haven’t seen a pic of any armor. Lol

really wish these threads had options to seen “only pictures” just like they show all the stuff for sale below that is mentioned in the thread.

 

I have an sos skid trio, sos front bumper (no winch yet), and I am installing my sos sliders in two weeks. I have the bilstein 650lb coils and no issues. Once I get my sliders on I can shoot you some pictures on here of everything installed but here is a pic without the sliders.

 

Just purchased the 6112’s for a DCSB second gen on the 5th clip. I’m a little worried now that it’s going to put me over 3 inches after reading some reviews. They are spec’d at 2.46 inches. Anyone have a similar setup and care to share some results after the springs have settled? Thanks in advance.

 

I have the same truck and shock setting. At that setting it put me a hair under two inches. With an AAL at 1.5 inches it almost leveled the truck.

 

You have a third gen so it’s going to be different than a second gen. Third gens don’t get quite as much lift.

 

I had the fourth setting at first with a 600lb spring and a dclb 2nd gen. I had about a 3/4" rake with medium dakars. What are you running in the rear for lift?

 

C4 Hybrid, Warn 8s, Mobtown steel reinforced trio. 4xInnovations DOM sliders, SOS HC rear for armor.

 

I’ll be installing medium Dakar’s with 5160’s at the same time. Any idea on your fender to hub with the 4th setting after settling? Contemplating dropping them down now before install. I definitely don’t want to be nose high.

 

The fourth setting was a great height for me......and I think with the medium dakars, it would be a great match for you as well. I think that the 3rd might give you too much rake with the dakars. It would be more for a AAL. The 5th setting is most likely going to level your truck.

 

Good chance I may have the shop drop them to 4. My Dakar’s are both “-“ as well so may get 1/4 less than spec. Was your 3/4 inch rake with an empty bed?
