**HELP** I screwed up my clutch pedal

Need some help guys. I have a 2018 6MT and have had bad creaking clutch issues. Dealership looked at it but refused to do anything, saying “We tested other trucks that do it too so it’s normal.”

I’ve found a little bit of grease can fix the problem temporarily. I was wiggling the pedal while I greased it and now I have nearly 1” of play at the top of the pedal travel. I think the master slave attachment isn’t seated right. I’ve spent an hour trying to fix it but can’t. Any advice?

You should have free play so the throw-out bearing isn’t always spinning. However, that does seem a bit excessive. Hold the rod and loosen nut, then adjust until about half that play is gone. Then, tighten the nut back up.

I can’t get the nut to turn. The whole thing rotates. It’ll go about 1/4 turn and the play is gone, but then it’ll either pop back or pop forward another 1/4-1/2 turn and the play is back.

 

The part that touches the pedal has a place for a wrench (14 mm I believe). Hold that and break the nut (12 mm I believe) loose. Then hold the rod and turn the part that touches pedal to adjust. Then hold that piece and tighten the nut.

I think I figured out the problem. My clutch was fine (aside from the creaking) until I wiggled it to help distribute the grease. Somehow, I ended up unseating the point where the top of the slave cylinder interfaces with the underside of the clutch pedal. The reason it has that 1/2 inch of play is because the pedal pops down over the little nub on the top and hits the broader base beneath. Now to figure out how to fix it. The picture is an upward view from the floor to under the clutch pedal.

 

What you did to mess it up just do it in reverse and it will be back where it was at .

 

Yeah... did that. Several times. All I did was wiggle the clutch a little as I pressed it down. I’ve been playing with it and it’ll get seated correctly for about two presses and then it pops out again.

 

I went back to the first dealer and they did an "adjustment". It was nearly impossible to press the clutch down and I had to stomp on it to get the car to start. I ended up going to a second dealer and after about 15 minutes the tech came out and said "That's broken. The whole thing needs replaced." Don't know exactly what the issue was, but they did the TSB and replaced the entire assembly. After a little fiddling with the lock nut and pedal free play when I got home, the thing is perfect. Drives like new again. Very happy!
