my blue sea install

upgraded my lights to 80/100w ones from napa (PN: BP1210/H4 - 1700 lumens vs 1000 for the 55w OEM lights), so i wanted to upgrade the wiring as well. also, im going to be wiring up my level motors here soon, so figured the blue sea block would fit the bill nicely! even has room for the relays in the front.

here is my install w/ the milspec battery connectors as well! not a pretty as some, but fits the bill just fine!

How hard was the headlight wiring harness to build, and have you had any glitches from it? It seems really straight forward, but some people have warned against doing this in a late model car.

Have you had any issues with the higher powered bulbs in the factory units?

 

harness was VERY easy. used some ceramic plugs from "rays auto" on egay and a relay. then you just wire up the relay (4 wires) and youre good. if you do it right, there should be no clitches, no matter what year car you do this on. the only thing that can fail is the relay, but i have an extra one just incase so i dont get stuck w/o headlights.

just installed everything last night, so i have no long term results running the higher wattage bulbs. Chris4x4 told me about the bulbs, and he successfully ran the bulbs on OEM wiring in a 1st gen truck for years from my understanding, so im not worried (since i have beefed up the wiring).

 

Thanks Yosh. I picked up the same ceramic plugs from Ray's Auto as well. They look like they are pretty nice. I will probably go ahead with it, then.

You might look at some of the Osram offerings as well, if you don't mind ordering online you might get a better bulb with less power consumption. Candlepowerinc.com has most of them, and you can see the ratings at: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/bulb_types/bulb_types.html

 

^ sweet. yea, w/ those, 14g wiring and the relays, you should have no problems. also, just follow his diagram in his complete wire harnesses if you need a schematic on how to wire/solder it all up. i have one realy for the lows and one for the highs.

 

and thank you. those napa bulbs put out 1700 lumen low beams for $10/each, so i'll stick w/ that for awhile and see how i like them!

 

Oh yeah, the price and availability make a big difference, and I imagine the high beam output is about the same as the Osram 80/85w. If you're not running headlights in daylight, you probably would never know the difference.
