I'm telling ya. I don't like electric motors "that wear out" this early. I did like the old vacuum controlled tilt that started on the 1967 T-bird.

The Q45 has electric tilt and telescopic. But it also had an on/off button next to the controller toggle where you could turn the automatic retraction off if you didn't like it. So ~30 years later, it still works like new and doesn't cause problems.

Yeah LX is definitely gonna have more little frills and stuff that will need messing with than Land Cruiser.
That's funny on the Nissan having a cutoff so the little electric motor doesn't need to cycle pointlessly lol. Early Nissan had a lot of overly/well thought out designs into little intricate things like that.
And the t-bird vac stuff?? That was before my wrenching time unfortunately. Apparently Volvo used vac powered systems for a lot of the powering of systems like door locks and stuff even into the 80s?! That right? Just something I read and stuck with me. I need to look for an old Volvo next time I'm in a pic n pull and check it out

I was gonna ask what a steering wheel motor is but I didn't want to reveal my true ignorance of mechanical innovations. I thought maybe you were working on an automatic parking feature of a 2020 year model. Electronic tilt never occurred to me.
    DUH.

Oh yeah, I see what you're saying. Yeah I found a couple tight situations when I was loaded up with all my tools and the rear drawers full...:eek:almost filled my drawers:rofl:
Thankfully never failed. Oh and don't 100s also have that electronic brake booster or something weird too? I gotta look that up on Mud

    That's right.

The 1967 T-bird (& Lincoln Continental) was the epitome of vacuum controlled everything.

All of the mid-60s T-birds and Lincolns from the Wixom MI plant were loaded with vacuum controlled stuff.

Leno talks about it in this video. As a youngster, when I weighed about 75 lbs, I remember being "the one" who would crawl into the engine compartment in those Wixom Fords to reach water pump bolts because many of the hoods opened from the front. Water pumps and the associated bypass hoses were a common problem back then.

I thought about how I would describe the "steering wheel motor" earlier this morning. It has a whole new meaning today.. :):)

So my old Nissan pickup that pops bought off me and he uses it for his work and stuff, he calls me and says that he's getting a check engine light. I explain it's obd1 system do he'll have to see the lights blinking on the ecu under the bench seat. He grumbles like usual about what a pain in the ass whatever lol
he calls couple days later, yeah its kinda stumbling or falling flat at higher rpm, etc. I ask did you find the code for why check engine light is on yet? He grumbles and says no and that that's lame and a pain. I do ask when was last tune up? Spark plugs, cap and rotor, etc. He mumbles that stuff is fine and not worry about that and to listen to him :rofl:Lolol yeah you guys know the type I'm taking about. He's gotten way better last 10 years though lol
He goes to do the emissions testing on it to register it (o_O I know I know lol) and the old man testing it is like it's not gonna pass, and points at a plug wire that is obviously not a hundred percent firing and stuff, etc.
Pop calls me after he gets to his home and see his spark plugs were worn completely down, worn healthy but far worn. Lmaooo :rofl:take that pops hahahja:Dyour kid might know a thing or two by now, of course he called to tell me and I reminded him I asked him about spark plugs specifically and he's like I know I know, and I didn't have to say anything else. Point was clear:D:cool::rofl:

Does his truck have the gray 14 pin consult interface? The 1990 model Nissans that I've been around had an ODB1 system that was damn nice. Hell I've even got a phone app that connects to the ODB1 Consult interface. Its called Nissan Data Scan 1 for Android. There was a bunch of software developed in Australia for the 14-pin consult interface. IIRC, Australia didn't get ODBII until much later in the game so there was a lot of development for ODBI diagnostic equipment.

    http://www.nissandatascan.com/

ECU talk was the first Nissan ODBI diagnostic tool that I used. I got to be buds with the guy that developed it and learned a lot about how the ECU registers work.

Good man for caring about backups. As I like to say: "You are only as good as your last backup.".

No, not a call for help. I'm versed in linux, just not in getting this software setup and working. Lots of shit online to learn and help guide, along with just being familiar with what to look for.

Not sure on that stuff. It is a 1994 model, if that matters. But he wouldn't care enough to want to learn any of that stuff unfortunately. I'm sure he'd love for me to though lol
That's pretty damn cool to work with those guys that developed it:cool:
