I've been a backup admin for most of my professional career as a sysadmin. I had UrBackup installed and working but I wasn't happy with the amount of storage it was using and there was no data deduplication, so I'm giving Bacula a shot.

Dammit. I need to take the time to learn what this stuff even means so I can be better well rounded for the future times.
I said that like 5 years ago and never did it. But I know I'm gonna need to know this stuff. Shoot.

I'm all self-taught. Just get a cheapy computer and learn how to install linux and then start playing. The laptop I posted from Amazon is more than enough to play and was $162 shipped. Linux is free.

I volunteered to write some of the documentation and got in on the inside scoop. Then I have been a beta tester for NDS with my 99 (edge model) A32.

It looks like the D21 still used ECU lights for diagnostics until 1996 when ODBII came out.

What Nissan models do you currently own? A32 has to be a model code like D21, I just don't know l what it is:anonymous:

Frim the age of 10 I was fixing other people's shit. At 16 my dad lifted the hood of his GTO convertible to clean his air filter ( by wiping the cover with a rag)
After checking the dipstick Dad set the rag on the rad cap and started the engine. Fan sucked the rag in and roundy round it went as he revved it.
I was able to stop him from putting his hand into the moving fan:eek::thumbsup:.
Ok, engine off, remove ground rag from fan. Engine on, a little rough idle. I got Dad to check the plug wires with his hand (as I walked away):annoyed:

That was the last time Dad opened a hood in my presence.

I didn't mind that my youngest brother shared Dad's under the hood exploits after that, especially since He's missing the tips of 2 fingerso_O

Okay so the A32 refers to a model in Maxima's line. I've always really really like Maximas

Used to run Redhat at home when it was free. Been running Ubuntu now for a few years. I like it. Linux is Linux basically.

Yeah, Linux is Linux...I ran Ubuntu for awhile as well.

Since I've downgraded space wise and barely use a PC, I've done away with all that.

Who knows, maybe when I move, I'll stop, drop, shut'em down, open up shop

    That was a fun read!
The big difference with my pops is he does not have that excuse yours does. He damn well knows all of this stuff. I got my common sense and troubleshooting from him!
After all these years I think I see his issue, it was truly just don't want to do it the way someone else says. He'd rather bleed, sweat, cry, but do it his way. Pride is a MFer. He's getting old enough to where it's going away. It drove my siblings away but I knew what he meant and could overlook that crap.
That's my pops man. Everything I wanted to be and looked up to, embodied in one man. He was Hulk Hogan, Joe Montana, Larry Bird to me. Thanks to our messaging here this reminds me i'mma call and remind him of what he is to me:oops::D can never say it too much

I started off with RHL 6 back on a little DEC Alpha that I bought so I could have a 64bit Unix box at home. I actually ran AlphaNT on it. That was when MS released NT as the "one OS all platforms" operating system.

Not many people know that MS provided a version of NT for major RISC platform in the early days. Since most of the NT developers (Dave Cutler) came over to MS from DEC and had been part of DEC VMS development, there was always a Microsoft affinity to the Alpha platform. This became apparent when Dirk Meyer (and development team) left DEC and moved over to AMD to design the 64-bit x86 platform. They developed the AMD X64 platform on the original DEC alpha high speed bus. That was a huge blow to Intel that had spent years developing the Itanium EPIC chip 64-bit architecture that didn't catch on.

I've been in the Unix world since 2000. CentOS is gaining fast fast on RHL.

If Dave Cutler had not left DEC and moved to MS in 1988, we would be in a very different software world today.

It was Dave Cutler that made damn sure that Microsoft would embrace and use AMD64 for software. Actually testing NT on the DEC Alpha contributed to its success. It was easy to find memory violations (cause for blue screens) on the Alpha platform than any other processor platform in the early days.

    Read about Dave Cutler here.

No way! That's my favorite model of Maxima too! So... I do want to get a sedan eventually. I was thinking Lexus or Avalon, but you think I'd be happy with a 4th gen Maxima that checks out??? I think you have as good of an idea as anyone now on my likes and priorities, as funny as that sounds :D:rofl:
