Woot! Just keep this thread and add your new TOYota to it IMO!

Can't wait to see that truck towing that other truck to the trail :)

I could do this, just thought it might be confusing to new readers. I guess in the end it makes sense and would be like an evolving history of Toyota ownership. Wish I had started with my 2nd gen so it would be represented as well.

Touche', I'll just rename the thread, do a short historical rewind to cover the prior 2nd gen and then cover the new 1st gen truggy.

RIP to the 17' Tacoma (you were a wonderful truck)
Sad to say it but I just found out that the newest owner of my old tacoma (Red 2017) was in a serious wreck on Feb 13, 2020.
Most importantly: From what I've been told, all persons involved survived!

Yeah, heard about the wreck on the scanner at work, didn't know it was my old truck until after @MattCowsmasher tagged me in the thread and I saw the pics. Really hope everyone is able to have a full recovery.

slowly, was put on hold for the past month due to the virus lockdown in that area. Last I heard fab of the front 4 link was underway. I'm probably going to sneak down there this coming week and take a personal look see.

Well Mr. Manner, I went to the shop and poked around. It was disappointing to say the least. Truck is in a deconstruction mode at this point. Shop owner said the pandemic caused his shop to close for two months and he had 3 of his 5 employees quit during that time. He's now back and running but still only 3 employees (himself included). 97' started coming apart and ran into several severe issues: front wheel bearings shot to the point they fell apart during removal, front axle u-joints are toast, front gears were shimmed incorrectly resulting in chewed up gears. Had him go ahead and check the rear axle while we were at it. Rear showed some wear but was re-usable. What does this mean? We are completely rebuilding the front axle with new bearings, u-joints, 4.88 gears and it's getting an e-locker for the front. No changes to the rear axle. As for the suspension. The link front link arms were being cut and prepped for welding the overly large heim joints in place, don't remember the size but they are as big as my fist no joke. Did see the parts for the hydraulic steering kit and the Fox dual spring coilovers in the parts pile along with the sheet metal that will be the new fuel cell.
Ended up having a polite but honest conversation about expectations not being met (was supposed to be completed April 15th) resulting in a written and signed agreement including a 2k price drop off the top and a new completion date of June 19th with a $150 per day penalty for any deadline deviations.

All in all, disappointing at first however, I feel it will everything will be right when all is said and done. I'm comfortable with the current situation.
