Also. The ravine in the pic is BLM with no public access. I got permission from the farmer to cross his property and head up there. He is convinced I'll find some moose sheds. But told me to go up there packing a gun. Many cougars apparently.

I would love to find some moose or elk sheds! Chances are slim...well, actually less than slim, here.

I've found that with cougars, if you just take a can of cat food and a can opener you'll be fine. Do not forget the can opener.

Good Idea! I've never encountered one out on my own. So not sure how they will act. As far as I know it's all in your demeanor. Act scared and run than they see you as food. Stand your ground and make noise they leave you alone.

But toss em food? Perhaps that will get them to leave ya alone for a few mins. But wouldn't they follow you thinking you are a source of nom noms after?
