debadged..now how do i get this crap off?

I have used goo gone and got almost all the sticky adhesive off, but there is still an outline where the badge used to be. I think my truck was repainted and they just left them on there but I don't know. any suggestions?

Agreed. LOTS OF GOO-GONE and ELBOW grease.

I also took it a step further and used some Rubbing compound and a buffer to get it off. It's going to be a pain in the ass so heads up.

 

i too was wondering this cuz im thinkin of debadging my tailgate. and idk if yours was repainted but if they have been on since 95 the paint underneath is gonna look different

i used WD40 and goo gone for the tacoma label up front but you can still see it. maybe some kinda of rubbing compound and maybe wet sanding? i would wait to see more replies tho lol good luck

I am actually putting 2nd gen badges on my truck. I would like to put them above the lower body line, but it looks like im going to be putting them where the originals were because my paint has faded.

 

I don't think a body shop would tape off your badges that well so I'm sure it's not paint. You can soften it with a heat gun or hair dryer if it's adhesive. I just De-badged
my truck and I had to use a heat gun to get everything off after it was all off you could still see an outline of the badges because of polishing and whatnot. So I took my high speed buffer to it with a wool pad set to 1400rpm with a light polishing compound. After that i switched to a foam pad with a finer grit set to 1000rpm. Finished it off with a wax and it looks awesome.

With the older trucks your going to have an outline so after you get all the crap off buff it out or take it to a detail shop and have them to it.

Yeah taking it to a detail shop would be the best way to go probably but I dont feel like spending that time and money lol

 

Just go in there and talk to the guys I'm sure if you tell them to buff out and polish the spots where the badges use to be and you will wax the truck it shouldn't be more then $20 bucks maybe less depending how much they need the money.

 

I used M.E.K. thinner (found at lowes) to take the gunk off. It worked good with just 3 wipes everything was gone. If you have a power drill you can use a polishing ball with some rubbing compound to make the outline disappear

 

i used some 3m adhesive remover, worked real good. After there was still an 'imprint' there but after a car wash or two it should be gone. Cant see it no more.

I debadged mine after 12 years, have a dark color body too.

I'll reiterate. Lots of goo gone, elbow grease and a serious waxing detail.

It's a PITA but well worth it when it's done.

And trust me, it will come off. Don't give up.

i used bug and tar remover to get my glue off. my truck was new though so i didnt have to rub real hard onmost spots but a few were stubborn

 

no joke this stuff works but make sure it's NON CHLORINATED and wash/wax it after u remove it.

Try it in a small area first

some people use wd40 as a remover too. but brakleen did the job for epoxy removal based work i did when i removed my window shades that stick to the outside trim.

Dude, wet sand it with 1500-2000 grit sand paper, cut and buff it, then wax it. It takes a while but MAN IS IT WORTH IT! I did it when I debadged and it worked very very well.
