I have a 2014 Tacoma v6 that has decided not to start. Has been running fine then all of the sudden after work today it did not want to start. Thought it was the battery so tried to jump it and eventually got it running. Ran fine on the way home, but the check engine light came on and my traction control light came on and I could not turn off. Used code reader and got P0355 crankshaft position sensor 'a'.
Truck also has little to no power when off could it possibly be something else or is that a symptom of the crankshaft?

Tried to find a video or something to show me how to replace and I could not find. Can someone point me in right direction?

    Thanks for help

Bad news its under the tensioner pulley assembly mounting bracket and the alternator has to come off then unbolt and move the AC compressor over to unbolt the tensioner assembly. Saw it under there when doing tensioner so look at the pics and you will see it. You have to pull the drivers side wheel off to get into those bolts so need extensions and a few hours.

Camshaft sensors and crankshaft sensor have been changed. Also put a new battery in and still has same p0335 code. Any ideas?

A weak starter can trip this code. Look into that.

I saw that as well but it starts up great. Never had an issue with that.

Some other posts mention that they had a remote start installed and that was related to the issue and saw you were from Maine.
I have never had this code or issue so could only search the P0335.
Follow the sensor wires up and make sure no critter has chewed thru them as they were seeking a warm place.

Forgot to mention above that truck is running great now that parts have been replaced. Just the code keeps coming back.

Also do not have remote starter @muddog321

I might have missed it, but did you actually use the scanner to clear the code or are you just waiting for it to clear? This may be one of those codes that gets stored in the ecm

Sounds like some kind of hard code. Maybe something a dealer had to clear? My wife’s old car threw a code (forget the number) and it would instantly come back. It ended up being the damn computer and I had to buy a refurbished one. Hope someone with more experience in this can help you out

I’ve read some codes need the battery disconnected for say a couple hrs so the computer forgets them?
Not sure if this is the case but I saw it when throwing 02 codes on my Tacoma.

Left battery unplugged for a few hours. Code went away but came back quickly. Guess I will see if it is something dealer can get rid of

Could be sludge on the tone ring. A stretched timing chain is a different code.

I would say the next step is an osciloscope.

    BUT

I've seen a failing battery cause this. Even if it starts it and runs ok. The freeze frame on the code is usually low.

    Best wishes.

The battery is brand new so I dont think it is that.
Not sure what a tone ring is?

The ring that the crank shaft sensor reads.

The battery that caused my p0355 code on the highlander was .3 months old and only had 8000km on it. Unlikely but sharing anyway.
