Well, again, this won't be happening until early March but I am coming down to Orinda, CA. We have a cabin in Boulder Creek and Monterey is not too far down the coast from Santa Cruz. Don't know if you can wait that long though. And, when I use the word "help" that translates to me watching closely, asking dumb questions and drinking beer so....

Any tips on how to get a stripped skid plate bolt off?

it’s spinning freely but isn’t coming out.

The square nut on the back side probably broke off. Any chance you can reach it and hold it with pliers?

I'd also try putting a screw driver between the head of the bolt and the skid and applying tension while you try and back it out

That's a crying shame. Our 99 I30 took a milder version of that kind of hit. That section of the body would need to be cut out and replaced. If it has VLSD, the motor and transmission would be worth 500. I would buy it to have as a parts car. Find a donor body for $500 or less, then swap everything from the silver to make a good one.

It would be something else to find one like one like it without the damage.

I would get the transmission code to make sure it is VLSD.
