You read about burnt auto transmissions

 

Cleaned up my wiring today and added a snorkel to the truck.

 

Me no have no feelers

 

Oh yeah definitely little more work plus having to worry enough about driving in the woods

 

Almost never

 

The ONLY transmissions I have ever replaced were automatics. Sure, I have replaced a few clutches, but never replaced a manual transmission.

 

Ah shit, I found one

 

My point was not to say that manual trans will burn up... my point was to say autos burn up FAR less often than is being portrayed here.

Yes... I have to watch my trans temps, yes I have installed a trans cooler. But as long as I am aware of that, and keep my trans fluid changed at a regular interval. That's the end of it.

I don't have to fuck with feathering the clutch, or beating the shit out of my starter, or stalling out in a bad spot, or smoking my clutch.

 

ATF is very sensitive to heat, way more sensitive to overheating than the gear oil is that's in a manual trans. Once ATF breaks down due to extreme heat the trans is in trouble if it's not maintained

 

I’m sure, I’ve had my light come on twice (300°F if I recall right)

Or fucking your u joints... manuals are harder on those

Even though a 4lo launch in my stock tacoma v6 auto could chirp the tires and give me wicked torque steer... it freaked me out to the point i never actually kept it floored doing that

Just bliped the throttle freaked out and backed off

I played with some wood today. First to guess what I'm building can replace my 200k mile clutch for me

 

See that's what I mean though when I fall back on my point about personal preference...I enjoy wheeling a manual because to me it's more rewarding to work through obstacles using it.
Smoking a clutch, stalling and especially having to bang on a starter are not normal occurrences with owning one. It's like saying I don't want a truck with 4wd because the axles break. Sure it happens but it's far from normal especially if you know what you're doing.

I like a challenge, I like improving a skill, and I like staying engaged.

Still working on getting that clutch in when things go sideways, I killed it a couple times in the mud yesterday that way.
