Broken diff

So I did the standard limiter clutch dump being stupid and broke the diff. I drove it 5 miles home in 4wd and it sounds horrible. In 2wd it has 5 neutrals. I haven’t got it apart yet but what do you guys think most likely broke? And what brands do y’all reccomend. I was thinking about going to 4:56s anyway and nows a good time for it. 2003 v6 with the 4:10s and e locker rear end. tia

 

The gear itself is likely broken.

If you're lucky it didnt damage the actually differential housing.

I'd remove the diff and inspect before ordering parts.

 

Do you think the spider gears are broke?

 

I haven't seen it yet, but its possible.

I've only seen the ring gear split and shoot through the casing.

 

There’s not any windows in the casing.

 

I’ll get it apart in the morning

 

And it does fine in 4wd just makes awful noises and jerks when it catches. I can turn it by hand

One more question. Do y’all think it’s worth the extra time and money to go for 4:56s with 33 inch tires since I’m already buying the rear end gears? Is the front ring and pinion the same as the back?

 

No different size, 7.5" ring gear. You have to drop the whole front clam shell out. I would just leave it 4.10, you should be able to find a used 3rd member pretty easily.

Ooof, I was gonna say there’s a 4.3 rear diff/locker out here but you’re not really local at all

 

Yea, the front is 7.5" ring gear, different size.

Pulled it apart and all the teeth are broke off. I’ll order a Yukon ring and pinion

 

would y’all spend the money on a Yukon or just get a parts store ring and pinion for a daily
