Paint Contamination on 2011 White TRD Sport

Hey guys, so I sold the 07 this weekend and got my 2011 white double cab sport that i ordered a few months ago. I was washing it yesterday and noticed two pretty good sized black dots on the passenger door right below the window, i tried the toyota seleant cleaner, wax, and even my finger nail, but no luck, it was rough feeling like sticking above the clear, So, took it back to the dealer and they tried to clay bar it, still no luck. they ruled it to be trash that got in during the painting process. Would it hurt to take a litte 1500 grit sandpaper and lightly sand it, or will this take the clearcoat off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, it's a new truck, so the dealer better be handling it. No new vehicle should have that kind of defect.

 

I know right, the only option they said I had was to re-paint the whole door.

 

sandpaper to your paint wont hurt at all.

 

Use the 1500 grit?

 

It would definately thin the clear coat on that one spot and will show much later with time. Sucks to hear.

 

Relax. I'm sure he meant wet sand. Not that funny.

 

Its probably rail dust.

 

If you haven't done this before, then your new tacoma is not the place to start. Leave it to the professionals.

I would NOT use sandpaper on my paint..

Alot of the time something as easy as a clay bar will remove it

 

how big are we talking here? like 1/2 inch or like 1/16th? DONT SAND IT. leave paint work to the pros.

 

Fine grit and water will do wonders.

 

wait, why would you even bother? it's a defect, bring it back, and don't leave until they have fixed and dealt with it.

 

This is what I would do.

 

I'd take it straight to the dealer and have them fix it.

If the dealer is saying a repaint is the only option, I would get a second, third, fourth opinion.

I have to have a very good reason to allow them to breach the factory paint.

 

if it came like that from factory... they need to fire the quality control dept.

Sounds just like some dirt in your clear. The only way to remove it is to wet sand/polish it out. I would NOT recommend doing this yourself, as Toyota's are notorious for cheaping out on their clear these days, and your chances of burning through the clear are very high.

Ask your Toyota dealer which bodyshop they deal with. Then go to that bodyshop, and ask them if they can polish it up for you. That's your best bet.

My shop does all the work for Toyota in town, and we would do this for a customer, any day. Should only take a pro 10 mins.
