Yeah, it’s their fault. The apprentice is there to learn, and if you let them screw up, it’s because you weren’t supervising them. Shit happens, but end of day, it falls on the one who is supposed to be supervising.

Yes, you said it better than me.

Maybe it has something to do with growing up in a zero tolerance world. No one cares why it wasn’t done right, you didn’t check on the young guys, it was your fuck up. You got torn up for it. They did good, you didn’t get yelled at, that was your “pat on the back.” Teaches you responsibility and accountability pretty quick at a young age. Is it always fair when there’s a legitimate excuse? Not really, but you do learn to actually supervise and back check on things, rather then assuming it was done right.

Welcome to being an adult in any industry you work in. Seems reasonable to me.

That’s why I stopped using the “free” oil changes, I marked the filter and they never changed it so I went back and told them just give me the filter I can do it my self and never went to the dealer for anything again

I hope you left a glowing review with nothing but perfect scores on the survey.

This is one of many reasons why my truck has not returned to the dealer since I purchased it.

45k miles and all maintenance is done by me.

25 mins is how long it takes to do my own tire rotation.

1 jack, 2 jack stands and a cordless battery impact drill.

    1. I mark my valve stems.

    2. I answer survey questions honestly. How the dealership elects to assign ratings is none of my business.

Construction site regulations really tightened up after some well publicized accidents, and now there is serious consequences if something goes wrong- the person who signs off on paperwork at the job site is know as the “designated felon”...

my sales lady asked me once while i was at parts getting a filter or something (i use wix now) why i wasn't using the free 24 month service stuff. I told her basically what we have said here. I don't want the lowest paid person touching my truck and i prefer to do it myself so i know it was done properly.

Plus to take it there, is a 45 minute trip, each way. Then they ask you if you are waiting on it, gee, what do you think??? Then you have to wait an hour or 2, then drive it back home. That's 4 hours. I can do the oil change in 1 hour max- from driving truck to warm up, pulling tools out, doing the job, cleaning up. I can do the rotation in about 1 hour as well using 2 floor jacks- that's the hardest part of the job. jacking it up. So i save 2 hours of my life, and know it's done spot on right. eff the dealer. only for warranty work.

I take mine in for services. I’ve also had good luck with my dealership and don’t have to worry about taking time off work, so that counts for something.

    I could see that. lol

Our local Subaru dealer kicks ass, I would definitely buy a car from them.
I haven't found a Toyota dealer worth stopping to use the restroom.

20k service. Tech indicated spare tire pressure although I don’t carry a spare. Tech indicated all tires were at the same tread depth but one was recently replaced and nearly brand new. Tech indicated all brake pads were same depth. Provided this feedback on survey and to service manager after long suspecting the techs don’t actually check everything.

86 K on mine, done every bit of work except the auto trans service. I hate that job. I took it to my trusty AAA rated shop for that. It was worth the 99 bucks for not taking a bath in auto trans fluid. The three recalls I had done at Toyota, they were either trying to sell me a new truck, or warning me about belts and hoses that weren't even close to needing replaced. The service writer looked like he never held a wrench in his hand. Bullshit artists. They yanked my chain for weeks on the rear leaf springs. Finally, I wrote to corporate and told them I'm looking at Ford pickups because obviously Toyota doesn't care about how my truck rides. Miraculously, the dealer shit my 'back ordered" parts out two days later, and rolled out the red carpet when I showed up.

My tpms did end up resetting themselves and the tires were rotated, which is good. I’m still a little annoyed by the fact that they didn’t check the air pressure though. I could obviously fill the tires easily with my air compressor like I always do, but for me the issue is that they said they did something which they didn’t. What if it isn’t just the air pressure that they decide to skip next time?

I’ve been meaning to start doing my own maintenance anyway. This will serve as motivation to start doing so.
