I think I’ve come up with the monetary value of a manual to me in terms of trading my automatic in.

I’m not a die-hard manual guy, but I do miss driving one, and have been considering one over getting another NB miata.

Anyone hear care to share their experience and financial advice for negotiating a trade in from auto to manual? There’s plenty of them in my area, so the next step would be taking my truck to carmax, getting a trade in quote and seeing if dealers can match or beat it.

just would like to hear some other’s thoughts, if you thought it was a worthwhile trade in or not etc.

being too confident and going too fast against a headwind. Couldn’t bring the bike back from a tank slap.

    didn’t mean to digress

I went the other way (from manual to an auto) because I found the 2nd gen manuals frustrating to drive compared to the sportier manual Subarus and Mazdas I'd driven in the past, plus the I think the auto is better for towing & offroad. But I don't mean to start a manual vs auto holy war...

Do you have any parts to swap over? I found the truck I wanted and the dealer initially was cool working out a trade with me swapping bumpers, wheels, etc, but then changed their mind at the last minute so I ended up just buying the second truck and having to sell the first as a separate transaction to another dealer. Ended up getting a better sale price from another dealer than the first one was willing to give me on the trade-in. You may be able to get a better deal doing 2 separate transactions as well, by doing a trade-in you're effectively paying the dealer for the convenience of not having to sell the truck yourself.

Gotta wear a helmet... I had a new driver pull right out in front of me a week after buying my DRZ400SM. Thankfully I was able to dump the bike and avoid slamming into the side of her. Some road rash on my palms, ate through my shoe and road rash on my foot and then a fat bruise on my thigh.

I'm on Taco #3 right now and before ordering it, I went in 100% ready to get a manual. That's what my last Taco was and I loved it. Sales guy talked me out of it on the spot, primarily because of resale. I didn't fully buy what he was saying, but he did make some fair points. Mostly, in a few years there won't be any new manual vehicles made. Of course, that might increase the value of ones that still exist. My 0.02, which is by no means fact, is that the safer bet really is auto.

...That doesn't change how much I still wish mine was a manual though :).
