Nah, been together since high school so I knew what I was getting into lol. We live comfortably and I make good money in construction management. Won't have to pay for childcare when we decide to have kids since she works from home so that is a plus.

I bought one two years after graduating.

Saved up 15k to pay for half as down payment. When I say saved, it was all I did.

I wanted a Tacoma really bad, so I did what I had to do to get one with reasonable monthly payments.

50/20/30 rule. 50% bills, 20% spending, 30% saving. 30 and 20 have switched since buying the tacoma lol.

I'm 54. Like my Dad, I was a Ford guy for many years. About 20 years ago, all the young lads were buying Toyota Trucks, even before they were called Tacoma's. Always sporty and fun to drive, I too bought my first on in 1999. Solid, dependable little trucks although no so little anymore. My 10th new Tacoma is on order and has a scheduled build date of 3/4/2020. Although everyone's goals and finances are different this is what has worked for me.

My Tacoma's are extremely well cared for. I don't beat the hell out of them and I make every effort to keep the milage low. I buy a new one every couple of years. How do I do it? RESALE. My 2016 depreciated $6500.00 in 4 years. I don't finance them any more. I pay cash and then put a little money marked "Truck Fund" back in the bank each month. My wife gets a new RAV4 every 4 years which we finance. We mostly use that to go anywhere when we are together. I only use my truck for work. This way, in theory we both have new Toyota's but really only one actual payment.

So it may take you some time to build up some equity in a Tacoma, but the resale value is the best you can get no matter what you buy. Take care of it and it will serve you well, mechanically and financially. Good Luck!

Save? I used to save money, then one day the cost of living put an end to that, along with what little money I had saved.

I do like the title of a recent Dave Ramsey YouTube. “If you’re broke look, in the driveway”. You are welcome here at TW even if you don’t have a Tacoma yet. You’ll hate your truck if it keeps you in serious debt and stress.

I just grab the bull by the balls and run with it. If it kills me...it kills me.
You'll never save enough to buy these trucks.

This is the best advice in this thread. Here’s another one - don’t waste a bunch of money on a big extravagant wedding. Take that cash and use it for a down payment on a house. Rent out a room or two and take out a 15 year mortgage and you’ll be set by the age of 35.
