    Is the 170 the one with the skinnier than normal chain? I was looking at new saws a couple years ago and remember finding good deals on a small one but the chain was a lot thinner than my bigger saws.

    One of my stihls needs work. It feels like it has no compression. It's a newer one too. My old one runs like a top

    I never noticed the thickness of the chain, I'll have to look when I go back up. I have 2 Stihl chainsaws. This one is only a year old, my bigger one is about 3 years old. Both run great. This little 170 cut everything I threw at it, I ran it for 4 hours Saturday & 2 hours on Sunday. I run non-ethanol 94octane 50:1 mixed VP canned gas in all my stihl equipment. So no carb issues after they sit for a while.

    Looks like a decent deal if anyone is looking. Ad says 1 owner garage kept. No undercarriage pics but not a bad price if the frame is clean. If it was a 4door I would take a look at it, but I'm sure the price would be higher if it was.

    Last call for this 2nd gen charcoal canister and evap system. Worked when I took it off. Don’t ever plan on putting the evap back on so if someone wants to hold onto it just in case theirs ever goes bad.

    Yeah the 170 has a smaller chain. I have another a little bigger 190? I think. It also has the smaller chain. My 036 has the big boy chain :):thumbsup:

    I have an old 029 and a newer ms290. The ms290 quit on me a while ago. Finally got around to doing some diagnosis today since we had the convo this morning. Compression test was 74 psi...I guess I'm getting a rebuild kit. Never rebuilt a motor before. Yay.

    It's not so bad on small motors. Make sure you get all the required gaskets, oils, and torque specs beforehand or you'll just get upset during reassembly. I would really recommend a small parts organizer to make it easier to remember what went where, especially if you don't think you'll do it all in one shot.
    You got this! :thumbsup::cheers:

    Yeah I heard, I was working financing but since there is no septic and it needs the tests but the owner wouldn’t do them to secure financing I missed out. Bummer, gotta keep looking! I’m sure more will pop up in the spring

    Just read about 30 pages to get caught up on this thread. Finally finished installing the prinsu (cutting weather strips) and replaced the blown speaker. Today was pretty nice out!

    I also have an Echo climbing saw that my mother can handle. It's tiny! Great for limbing downed trees before splitting

    Thanks fellas. I've done a fair amount of engine work but never a piston and rings before. Tore down a bunch of blown motors but never had to reassemble them to working order lol. I work on ATV a lot and have rebuilt countless carbs. I do need to get a small torque wrench. I only have a 50-250 ft lbs

    Hmmm, 77" must take into account the doors off the back. The inside dimensions of the LB for the 3rd gen is 74", not sure what the 2nd gen is. Either way I believe Joe's truck is a SB. Thanks Brett!
