Yeah, midwest winds are a fucking killllllllller. My move from Omaha to Wichita with a 6x10 trailer was laughable. I got 6 at best and refueled what felt like every rest area. Driving from Omaha to Denver was rough as well, think ~11ish...

it's funny how Toyota says you should be averaging 20-24 while we're all average <15

Not sure where toyota got those numbers from

Tonneau covers actually make your truck less aerodynamic. I know it sounds strange but an open bed is more aerodynamic than a covered bed. I was shocked but I saw the wind tunnel testing and stuff. Weird I know

Also, nearly ALL manufacturers that have vehicles tested feather and baby the fuck out of them. They also cant account for wind resistance because they test them indoors.
It's the main reason why turbo cars list higher gas mileage but in reality get worse range than N/A vehicles. Turbos are meant to be spooled. When they are tested for fuel mileage, they never get past a certain RPM, so what they show will also be higher than real world conditions. (I know turbos have nothing to do with tacomas, just explaining why real world MPG is always dramatically different than what manufacturers post)

Sounds about right for winter time. I got like 18 in the winters, 20+ summers. Tank Averages. Getting skinny 33's helped some.

I agree, there is a major problem with this. I have always used the EPA fuel economy to estimate mileage before purchasing a vehicle, and it has always been reasonably accurate or at least achievable. My combined numbers with mostly highway barely even meet the city numbers. I'm not sure if the EPA sold out or if Toyota fudged the numbers, but this is false advertising at best. I don't care how you drive or what you do, the advertised numbers are not achievable.

I can get the numbers on mine if i don’t exceed 65mph. Usually beat city mileage

When I drive super boring I can get 18 city 21-22 highway in my MT 2020 Pro. I have a Snugtop cap. I live in Washington, plenty of hills.
Now that I care less, I get 17.5 city and 20 highway. Not hammering it all that much but not driving like a grandpa either. Driving on Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2's, stock size, at 35psi.

Some of you have lead foots. :)

Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
Stories like this one make me think my truck must be running on 5 cylinders or the stock lightweight tires on the SR/SR5 help drastically. I'm getting 19.5 average with lotsa remote starting idling.

That will actually cost you fuel, modern vehicles have DFCO which cuts fuel while coasting.

Mines been consistent, 80/20 highway, city. I’ve penciled a few tanks, pretty much the same.

When I first got my truck in the summer, I was getting 300 miles per tank. When I did only hwy, I got 360 miles per tank. Now during the winter I’m doing around 260 and the lowest I’ve seen was 240. I don’t drive too crazy, but yeah it’s pretty bad during the winter time

im also in Washington but centrally located and in my 2020 DCLB I’m averaging around 16mpg pretty much all city. I averaged around 19mpg going to Seattle which is around 150 miles away and going over 2 mountain passes. For me it seems like most vehicles I am around 2mpg lower than EPA which seems about right to me. I only have 1,600 miles on mine and have only driven it since January so maybe with time and different weather I will see a change. But alas I’m getting around what I expected to get MPG wise.

I got 20-21 on OEM setup, and with a lift, rock rails, skids, and E rated 33s I get 15-19. Usually 15-17 city and 18-19.5 on highway always running ECT on. And this with the auto stays screaming at higher RPM on any highway use, 3k and above. Winter fuel will hurt your mpg though. Wanna see your MPG take a real hit, tow anything with the V6 and automatically get sub 9mpg. I towed 1k lbs and got 8mpg at best. Have to keep the rpm down to help with the fuel mileage in these, hard when there's no power under 3500 rpm. Just drive it man. Or buy a prius if you're that hard up over a few mpg.
