Looks cooler than any other truck in its class. Aftermarket part options are endless. Toyota is the cheapest to repair.

I wanted a 4x4 pickup with 3 pedals, and I wasn't crazy about the look and price of the Gladiator. The Frontier is ancient, and I already had a '13 Pro-4X, so that only left the Tacoma.
I absolutely love this truck other than the boat anchor 3.5 engine. It pulls great at 4k rpm and above, but it really needs more low end torque. I'd still give it an 8/10 or so and would recommend trying one out.

    Working on it ...
I’m on my 4th one. Started out in 1988 with a SR5 (pre Tacoma). Got rid of it with 177k miles on it. Ran as good as the day I bought too, but the bed was rotting out in me. Cap was still perfect. Replaced it with a 2000 4cyl. Towed cars with it hundreds of miles. Thing never broke a sweat. Had over 100k mikes on it when I got t-boned. Replaced that one with 2002 TRD OR. Traded it in with 213k miles on it. They all served me well, towing, hauling loads of dirt/mulch/junk/furniture and just doing things that good pickup trucks do.

When it came to getting my new truck, Tacoma already had a leg up one the rest in my experience. They were all 4x4, solid, durable and reliable trucks that never let me down. Picked up a new 2019 4x4 DCLB TRD Sport (leftover) December 28. Have almost 4000 miles on it now. Nicest truck I ever owned. Daily driver. Averaging 20 - 21 MPG city/highway combined. Its a truck. Never expected to get in the high 30’s MPG like my wife’s Camry. Zero regrets!

Wanted a “do-it-all” vehicle, wanted to modify whatever I bought, wanted it to be reliable, haul my dirt bike and didn’t want to have to think about looking at another car salesman for the next 20 years.

I wanted a 4x4 with a bed, not an SUV. A full size wouldn't fit in my garage, so that narrowed my choices down very quickly. Between Nissan, Honda, GM & Ford...the decision was easy.

Needed a family hauler with our 9 month old. Wife had a newer Sonata that was a pain to get him in and out. While the trunk is large, we went on a weekend camping trip and still had to pile our bags in the backseat, stroller takes a lot space. Dog couldn't come with us even if we wanted to.

The financial smart thing to do was pay off her car and deal with it. But it sucked in the snow, couldn't handle luggage and a dog, was one trim level above base model, etc. Coming out with positive equity selling it so its not like we had to roll negative loan into the truck. Also helps we are a one car family due to me using a work truck.

So now we have ample room for crap, not worried about snow, and can enjoy the weekends with camping/trails. Plus all the added safety stuff gives me some piece of mind when she has the baby. Did I mention we are constantly working on our house. Borrowing my dads F150 was getting annoying. Its his baby, so I would feel terrible if anything happened while borrowing it.

Crossovers are pointless, just raised sedans. SUV is in the running, but for the price. The Tacoma fit the bill for everything.

Well my 96 tacoma blew a head gasket at 301k so I naturally decided to get a new tacoma that was a little friendlier on the wallet to drive every day to work and rack up 25k a year on.

Bought mine because I screwed up selling my 2013 for a 2018 Grand Cherokee, turns out I'm not a SUV guy and genuinely missed the bed space for camping and outdoor gear. Also missed the ground clearance, tow rating and road presence that comes with sitting up a bit higher. Safety seems to be solid from some of the recent wrecks posted here, maintenance isn't expensive and resale value is excellent.

I didn't even check I'd fit in the garage before I bought it. Thank the Lord it just fits... I just feel safer in a truck than an SUV or car.

Because it was left unlocked and running while the real owner ran into the gas station for smokes.

When i originally was shopping for a new truck a few years ago, i really wanted a tacoma but listened to a bunch of people around me saying that it was not a truck and that i needed actual half ton to get my monies worth. Basically saying tacoma is small and cannot haul anything and costs as much as a half ton. After a couple years of owning an f150 i realized i made a mistake on listening to others. I still really wanted a tacoma for the off road capabilities and all the aftermarket support it has. I ended up trading in my f150 and could not be happier with my decision. I never had a use for a full size and will never let others talk me into something i do not want.

wanted/needed a light duty truck that could go off road, looked good, had good support and community, got decent mpg and safety ratings, and was reliable. Haven't been disappointed in any of these regards.

I had an F-150 Ecoboost and loved it but it was a pain in the ass in my tight underground. When I heard the Ranger was coming out I was going to wait for it but after test driving the Taco I was easily sold. Glad I didn't wait for the Ranger. Have had my Taco TRD Off-road for 1.5 years and it is the best all-around vehicle I have owned. The F150 Super Crew was better for space and power but that was about it. Taco is way more practical for day to day life in the City.

I was replacing a 20 year-old Toyota T100. I use my truck for local driving and long distance, and hauling kayaks in the bed or with a kayak trailer. I really did not want a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy. The 3rd generation Tacomas finally approached my T100 regarding interior space and I got a 2018 OR CDLB. The T100 had much plusher upholstery and carpet, and a much more spacious bed. I parked alongside a Chevy Colorado this weekend and the Chevy also had a lot more bed space.

    Funny you mentioned that.

I really never paid attention to pickup trucks and planned on keeping my 19 year old Dakota until whenever?

On the coldest Friday morning in Feb 2016, my truck crapped out and I just had the idea to get a new truck.

When I went to the local Toyota dealership, they had one Tacoma in the lot, access cab, 4x4 V6 basic truck which is what I wanted...

    Quicksand.

I saw that truck and thought that is was the nicest looking truck I ever saw...lol

The salesman mentioned it had been on the lot for about three months and hadn’t sold- nobody was interested in it because of the color.

I made a pretty good deal on it, because I didn’t like the color either, but needed a truck ASAP...lol

Still think it’s the nicest looking truck.
