We are about five seasons into Rescue Me and all I can think of is how much military and first responders are alike. Obviously it’s not a real show but I’m sure some of the antics in the house happen. Not to mention the wife works at the Sheriffs office and tells me all the time how similar it is.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
My cousin retired from the Army as an E-5... I think this was in the early 2000's. He was an MP, but I swore they promoted quicker in that job? I guess he really is just that dumb.

With the amount I travel when deployed/tdy... I always bring a rolling suitcase. Trying to carry around a duffel bag with and 1-2 tool boxes isn't very easy to do. Plus the duffel bag is bound to get fucked up by loaders... a suit case at least has some rigidity to not break anything that might be breakable (extra pair of glasses for instance).

MP’s are an average promotion field. “Typically,” your combat arms will promote the fastest avg time (infantry, SF, air defense, armor, attack aviation, combat engineers.) Your combat support (where MPs fall) vary, and combat service support promotes slowest. That’s a VERY generalized break down, it adjusts monthly and is determined by needs of the army at any given MOS and rank. That’s a typical expectation though. Also, with very few exceptions, (in the Army) if your time is all active duty and you retire as an e5 (would have to be promotable at least to do so) with 20 years, you’re likely a turd.

Keep in mind, the army deployed a lot in the early-mid 2000s for Iraq and Afghanistan, the guys on fobs were typically less exposed BUT that doesn’t mean your cousin wasn’t out patrolling every day. MPs typically spend a lot of time off the fob (at least any I worked with did). So it’s quite possible he got jacked up and was medically retired. Not uncommon. I’ve had several soldiers that were, even years after an incident when their body or mind finally gave way. So theres a pretty big distinction between retiring at 20 as an e5p in the Army vs medically retiring as an e5 in the army with 4-10 years TIS.

Not even an option in the Army. Few have done it but generally speaking it’s frowned on and not just because you look like an ass. Throw the glasses in some socks in the middle of the duffle, or put them in your assault pack, problem solved. :D:boink:

A good quality duffel with wheels and straps is the best combination. I have a few of those that have been abused by military and civilian baggage handlers around the world and are still going strong. The truly important/expensive/breakable stuff like my flight helmet goes in a locked 1620 pelican case or as a carry on if that’s not possible.

Nah, he really is dumb. All he is still doing is security guard stuff... and he is the guy they ask to cover random shifts instead of a set schedule. He retired in 2003/4... so he didn't spend too much time over there. I think he did 1 or 2 tours, but didn't really have any ill effects from his time.

Rolling suitcase!!!?? Jesus, if it didnt fit in a sea bag it didnt go with you. Fucking airforce. Although, we did have metal gear boxes that couldnt be opened because of the "sensitive" shit we had to carry. No one really knew how many "sensitive" shit boxes we had to take

Yep, got a problem with it? I was on/off a plane and going through more airports/security every deployment and tdy than you could imagine. I work on aircraft to go with that, so feel free to think what you want about how we conducted it.

I think there’s a big difference between that (going through air ports) vs unit deployment type movements. I had a big camp rolling duffle type for TDY travel when I was with ROTC.

How is that an Air Force issue? If we ever had contraband we simply stashed it in the crypto van, threw a greenleaf lock on it, and declared it uninspectable due to security. Deployed with refrigerators and full-size Weber kettles that way.

I also did the security box thing. Got into a fight with some air terminal squidling who wanted to cut the security straps on my hard drive case. It took Navy cops to tell her to back off and my paperwork was right.

Rolling suitcases. Sheesh. That's a failure in one dude's head. The branch on his uniform doesn't matter.

Besides, plastic footlockers FTMFW! You could overstuff the shit out of those.

Yup, never flew commercial, plus I was Navy, we had our own planes or called the Airforce for a C-141 or a C-5 depending how much shit we were hauling.

Major deployments were commercial to the rotator, at least for us. Big pain in the ass. 4 A-bags (armor/field gear, CBRNE, personal bag, and cold-weather bag when needed) plus weapon. At least we managed to get them to approve reimbursement for a "Smarte Carte." Getting to/from Norfolk was always a pain.

Once in Norfolk we were all good.
