Tacoma Pro-Hood graphics longevity?

I am thinking about picking up a 2020 Tacoma Pro.

What do you guys think about the black decals surrounding the scoop on newer Tacoma Pros? My concern that over time, they will become dull and maybe even peel a bit. I mean they are on top of the hood in full sunlight and attached to the hood which gets quite hot with the engine running.

Would you peel them off when the truck is new so they come right off? Or, leave them on realizing it will be almost impossible to remove them after one year or more?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks everyone!

That would be my concern as well as even the best quality decal/wrap seem to have about a 4-6 year life span with continuous exposure to the elements. As you state, probably less if on a hood. I've already replaced the decals on the passenger side between door posts on my 2018 TRD Sport.

If you like the decal, just purchase a spare so you will have it in case they become scarce in years to come. Also, most vehicle wrap shops could probably duplicate a new one to some degree.

    Has anyone peeled theirs off?

How difficult do you think it would be to peel off when the truck is new?

If you peel off any decals on the truck, best to do it early in it's life because the paint underneath won't fade compared to the paint that sees the weather and you will notice the transition. The graphics should be UV resistant and hold up well. There are members here as well that can always make you another set of graphics if need be.

The only issue I see with replacing graphics that are several years old is the difficulty of getting the ones on the hood peeled off once they have sat in the weather. Thoughts?

Hair dryer and patience and all decals and badges will come off no matter how far in the future. That and a little bit of goo gone (NOT GOO OFF) and youll be right as rain minus the color difference in the paint.

My friend has a pro decal on the hood that's lasted several years under the hot sun here in New Mexico, no fading on it anywhere. I also have a TRD Pro-style decal on the sides of my bed that has no fading for the couple years I've had it. But let's be real, 95% of the owners of these trucks won't have the vehicle anymore once this topic could potentially be an issue.

A lot of these decals from OEM are rated in the 8-10 year range, but it all depends on how much sun damage they get. If you leave it in direct sunlight all the time, you could get much less than that rating. If it is a garage baby, you could see over that easy.

I think an OEM Pro hood decal runs around $110. You can purchase an aftermarket copy for much less however.

I prefer to not have the graphic. The dealer syas they can remove it but will the paint under it be compromised?

I took mine off in order to apply the full PPF to the hood then put a new graphic back on.

They should last about 5 to 10 years with being kept in the garage and normal care, someone makes a spray designed for graphics. I personally don't like them but its not my truck.

My FJ had the black out hood and black pillar decals, after 11 years in WI they had not faded, cracked or curled.

We get extreme weather, from 100 in summer with intense humidity to -40 in winter with winds that turn snow into what feels like your face is being sandblasted.

My windshield was pitted after a few years due to it's straight up design but the decals and paint were perfect.

    You should be fine.

I have the 2020 Pro with the hood black out but not the giant one that says TRD, just the basic one that covers the scoop and it's surround. I like it.
I wouldn't want the package that comes with the big hood cover and bed decals, too gawdy for me.

IF you want it removed, the dealer can remove it easily and so can you with a hair dryer and getting a corner loose, then peeling back slowly.

You can always have your entire hood decal protected with PPF. I chose EXPEL Ultimate Plus with a 10-year guarantee. It will make the matte black finish appear gloss black after its applied. I like the glossy look way better.

Dang you went over your decal? I had mine taken off then full PPF then decal back on because I was worried about potential separation and air pockets.

I like it looks like the pro 3 piece hood with scoop decal but says Trd off road instead of pro so if you don’t have the pro i was wondering if Toyota makes a oem one without the pro on it as well i like oem factory upgrades if not I will still get this one & The side Bed decals as well
