My kid lost interest so I'll build it for the Lil Mrs. build

Next we did the front bump stops. I had some @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc Super Bumps laying around.

They aren't actually designed to work on 1st Gen Tacomas/3rd Gen 4Runners. So I cut them down a bit, added some 3/16th stainless blanks as bases and they work great. (This is what I'm running on my truck).

Never knew about those Mevotech UCAs. I may have to pick a set for myself.

 

And then it was time to put it all together.

I had a set of Bilstein 5100s with ToyTec 620# coils laying around. I took them off my truck when I went to coilovers. The truck was lifted when he got it, but it was just a Rough Country hockey puck lift... this should be a pretty nice improvement.

Here's when we realized these stock 4Runner wheels aren't going to work with the Tundra brakes.




Luckily Dad has stacks of take off Toyota wheels in the side yard lol.

I had a set of TRD wheels, that also happened to come on the 1st Gen Tundras... and problem solved... for now... until he gets a set of Konigs with 285s from a friend lol. (@MattJakobs lol)

 

Most important upgrade done so far.

 

Replaced the auto shifter bushings with poly bushings from @Brice.



This is what one of the old ones looked like.



If your auto shifter is all loose and sloppy, you need to hit up @Brice... these things make a HUGE difference.

 

Ran the rear diff breather up just behind the fuel door area.

 

And here's what it looks like when you've bought a Toyota 4wd and you're on TacomaWorld... and you realize you now have no money.

And... another usless (and ugly) item removed.

 

Yes, he definately helps with the wrenching.

We do a lot of it around here lol.

We just did Water Pump / Timing Belt / Valve Covers on my buddy @siznarf T4R last weekend.





And the awesome part is... we get to turn around and do all that to @RobertsT4R in a month or so.

 

So we finally got everything back together again. The Runner runs and drives fine... we now have an issue where it will only start in Neutral, but it got late... we'll look at that tomorrow.

It definately needs an alignment as well. The truck tracks straight, but the wheels have a BUNCH of positive camber goin on... also, I want them to give Robert as much forward caster as possible, to make room for some 285s.


The best part of today, was I got my damn garage back... for a minute... lol

 

So, now that we have the truck drive-able (and out of my garage) we can start looking at some of the other things that need to be addressed on the truck.

As I mentioned before, the truck was involved in a moderate front end collision. The frame horns are in good shape, but the bumper sub structure is missing. Seems everything is held together with a mixture of bolts and bailing wire. Not really a big deal, as he is definitely going to be replacing it with some sort of winch bumper (probably a Trail Gear), but that's going to wait a minute.

The fenders are slightly bent. Hood and radiator core support have been replaced. His goal will be changing the Hood, grill, headlights, fenders, and core support over to an 01-04 Tacoma... but again this will wait till all the meat and potatoes have been addressed.

The air bags also deployed. Fortunately I have been able to track down an 01-04 steering wheel and air bag and @rob1208 was nice enough to pick up for us.




I also found a dash board and air bag that @TOP TACO snatched up for us, and it has now made it's way to @foxrcing07 (gotta love TW express).

 

Transmission drain and fill was a part of yesterday's festivities as well.

Lmao! I've got to give my truck some love now that I have a garage again... so I'm not in a rush to tear the interior of Robert's truck apart quite yet.

But I can come by and pick that up any time you're not busy... or not that busy.

Some new (used) tires/wheels arrived here on the job site, this morning, for Robert's truck. Looks like we'll be throwing them on this evening.
