    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Jim Pattison Downtown Toyota.

As per your inquiry about the Corrosion Resistant Compound application recall, the product use for is a wax application to protect the inner structure of the frame. Please let us know of the time and date you wish to come in for this recall and if you also need any services done at the same time. My availability is for the month of March onward .

    Kind regards,
    "

i dropped my truck off this morning and I picked it up today. I was originally told by the dealership that it would be a three day process, but it didn't turn out that way... From what I could see when i picked the truck up, it looks like the coating was applied only to the inside of the boxed section of the frame. I'll post pictures when I get a chance, although there's not much to show. I had fluid filmed the frame last fall, and for he most part it looks exactly the same as when i dropped it off. I guess I'm not worried about it, as long as I get an extended frame warranty.

I had my truck inspected and was told to bring it back in the spring to get the coating applied. 3-4 day turn around and a rental will be supplied. Apparently they are going to scrape off the old coating?

Is there a specific reference code/number for this in Canada, or will they know what I am referring to when I mention the frame inspection?

    Thanks!

    Hey Buddy!

Jim Pattison gave me a 2020 SR5 for 4 days. We took it up island for the weekend to test it out. It was actually my first drive in a 3rd gen after reading about them on TW for the last 4 years.

What’s the last year for the Tacoma’s frame to be replaced? We’re looking at a 2007 TRD Sport 6spd manual with 155,000km on it for my wife.

This recall is actually quite fair. My experience was relatively well.

I didn't get a letter in the mail or anything as my address and info was not yet registered with toyota corp. But heard about it rather through toyota corp when i called in inquiring about a potential leaf spring recall (which my vin was not covered unfortunately) - so I pursued trying to get a new frame as mine was quite rusted, but not to the extent where they found a 10mm or greater rust out spot. So they just did the CRC coating (looks like mayo and they only spray it on the front quarter of frame and mostly on the inside of it). This program is running until Dec of 2021 I was told (i have a 2011 so i am not sure if the same holds true for earlier years?).. but if you get the CRC you do get extended warranty on the frame for the 12 years - yes you must get the CRC to get the additional 12 years.

I dropped the vehicle off the morning of Thursday and got a tiny rental l from enterprise (all paid for of course), and picked the vehicle up on Friday afternoon. One thing i suggest to anyone who take it in though, ensure you look under your frame ON YOUR OWN first. Get under there and poke around as it seems they just have a very brief look and dont seem to go in depth.. Its probably for the best and your own safety.

    Southwestern Ontario.

Got an 05 Tacoma, they originally offered me the undercoat after they inspected the frame and declared the frame “ok” After crawling under there myself and seeing some flaking and a hole, I took it back. After telling them, they re-inspected and decided to give me a frame swap. Other than a few issues with some leaks, which they fixed, I’m happy with what was done. My advice before getting an undercoat or corrosion protection is to check it yourself first. On my frame it appeared to corrode from the inside out, so it may be rusted and you would not notice it. Take a screwdriver or hammer to it, should be solid and zero soft spots. Thinking that the undercoat is just there to “hide” the rust.

Sounds like they didn’t properly inspect it. A hammer should be used when they do it. They should have found that.

Glad you got it taken care of!

So, in my letter from Toyota it says that no action is required if your frame isn't currently showing corrosion perforation. It says that they'll send out a separate notification once the CRC (frame coating) initiative rolls out and that I'll have 2 years from then to get the coating done. Did any of you guys get this second notification about the CRC program starting? Did the dealer just go ahead and apply the coating anyway? I just made an appointment for an assessment by my local dealer but then realized I haven't gotten a second notification so was debating whether to follow thru and bring it in. Curious if that came up for any of you.

I received two notices. The first is for the inspection. If it passes, they order the CRC kit and you set up another appointment to get that done.

If it fails they set up another appointment to replace the frame.

I was also waiting on my 2nd notice (for 8 months) and it never came. At my last oil change I showed the service manager the 1st letter. They inspected the frame, it obviously passed since it's only 3 years old but they called Toyota HQ, gave them my VIN and Toyota approved the CRC job and sent the CRC kit to the Dealer. Im dropping it off in the morning to have it done and they've arranged a rental for 3 days. I dont really care what's done to it as long as I get my 12 year frame warranty. After weekly summer beach driving, salt water boat ramps, New England winters and living 200 yards from the Atlantic Ocean...I garrentee this frame will need replacing in a decade! I'll take it!
