People are having to apologize for congratulating the winner of that NASCAR race because of Ryan Newman’s accident. It’s being hated on as “insensitive”.

    thoughts?

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

It's fucking stupid... I swear to god people have to dig, crawl, and scratch to be offended about anything and everything.

Chances are when Hamlin crossed the line and was swept in to victory lane... he actually had no idea the extent of the wreck that happened behind him.

It's a race. Should you celebrate winning when the presumed winner is involved in gnarly wreck and crosses the line on fire?

Probably not like you would when it's a tight race. Subdued would be more appropriate. At least, that's what Miss Manners said on the matter.

I am in complete agreement. In fact, I don't think I'd ever drive any vehicle going 75 around big moody.

Having said that I almost always stay in the right lane unless I need to pass someone in which case I move into the left lane.

I just get frustrated because it seems whenever I'm driving in that exact location I get stuck behind a bunch of cars in BOTH lanes going way under the speed limit which is I believe actually illegal.

    EDIT: Not illegal in California

There's a wreck on just about every last lap of every race (at least it's begining to seem that way)

And NASCAR wants it that way, they like it that way... they make it that way.

    Screenshot_20200218-124434_Chrome.jpg

But THIS race, in particular... the winner is supposed to not celebrate winning the biggest race of the season? o_O

Even though there will probably be a green-white-checker (and therefore a wreck on the last lap) next weekend.

    I agree 100%!
That also drives me a little bonkers. They become a rolling road block and people start changing lanes to get around them. That's when accidents happen.

The electric signs that say stuff like "Click it or Ticket", "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving" etc should say "The Left Lane is For Passing" just once in a while.

It's also illegal to hinder faster traffic too. But that's rarely enforced.

I'm not a huge fan but it sure seems like there's a lot of sparks in crashes. As in, way more than you'd imagine....

I used to be a big fan. But the way they do this "playoff" bullshit... and change the rules just about every year on the playoffs (seemingly to benefit certain drivers)

And the way they have done the super speedway aero packages etc, to pretty much bunch the field and cause these types of situations... (because it's more exciting, or something).

And... I just can't connect with these new drivers coming up.

I'm not much of a fan anymore... Thank you Jim France (and Roger Goodell)... for giving me back most of my Sundays. (not much of a fan of the NFL either anymore)

Lets go back to 2001. Michael Waltrip celebrated a win. Hell it was even his first win in 463 races. The most popular driver in NASCAR was killed on the last lap. Nobody said anything about it being to insensitive. The pussification of America is going strong.

Dale Sr was also Waltrip's best friend.

He didn't even know Sr was dead until after the Victory Lane.

I doubt Hamlin knew how bad Newman was either.

    I guarantee he didn't know.

It's racing. There's inherent risks. And there are crashes all the time. There have been hundereds of bad wrecks on the last lap... especially at Daytona, Vegas, and Talladega.

Why is this situation any different or special?

He and Gibbs have apologized...

What a stupid fucking crock of shit! (and I don't even like Hamlin... I'd say Harvick and Newman would be my favorite drivers now)
