have to have similar interests, or both of you are willing to try what the other likes, and totally must laugh together, not you're laughing

Her ex became an abusive alcoholic when they were married. Interestingly he's in a seemingly healthy relationship now... I have always wanted to talk to him, I think our stories would align TBH.

I don't know about anyone else. but I don't think I would be ok with my lady being friends with the Ex,, that sounds like she was never fully committed. Maybe its good in the long run. take your time, work on you, and it should be better next go around. good luck.
