Overall thoughts on the deal?

To me, it's pretty fair. That 2nd round pick will be late. Madden's son is a good prospect. Killing it in NCAA right now and was decent for USA but who knows how he will be in NHL. I think he was a 3rd rd pick. So overall, seems fair. I maybe question the timing of Van to pull the trigger on "going for it" but the West is a bit weak / wide-open, so they have as good of a shot as any.

 

Boeser is out at least 3 weeks with fractured rib , Ferland was just shut down for rest of the sesson and Schaller barely dressed , I think it could be a good deal

 

The Canucks need the playoffs. They don't sell out unless they're winning and they're not as big a market as their fans love to preach they are. They need a couple or playoff rounds to keep ownership from shuffling the deck in the front office again. Making a middling move like this was a sound move for a pile of behind the scenes reasons even if it doesn't pan out.

 

It's a good thing I don't even want to see Toronto make the playoffs this year because they are complete garbage. I need Dubas fired first

 

Hope not that long I'm holding my opinion till after the draft and see what kind of team Blake is building by the way that Madden Prospect who was a third-rounder could be gold in 3 years or so.

 

Meh I'm in no rush to can him. While he overpaid for Marner I can't pin Andersen being Andersen and the early flop under Babcock on him. Sometimes teams finish out and then win everything a couple of years later. I want to give the kids more of a chance before watching some new GM firesale the team into another rebuild.

They are soft. Ovi was right about them. Lots of skill but they play more like individuals with an agenda, than a sound team. I like them, they will have their moments but I don't see them winning this year. Too many good well-rounded teams in the East.

 

He's done a lot of bad and as a whole I think the room is run by the kids. He's caused this.
Kadri trade was a disaster.

I love how Ovi said that. Remeber his first five years in the league. Selfish puck hog who made hits way out of the play. He figured it out with time and not a trade though with the right coach.

Meh I think in Canada teams pull the ripcord too early. You could make a longer list than that of teams that missed a year of playoff hockey before winning conference titles. I have a feeling pulling Dubas now will just put us in the same spot in five years but with a shit show in between. Leave them be and grab some popcorn. That's only my take though.

 

I mean at the end of the day, he's not wrong though. When you watch that team play, they don't play as a unit. And they mentally are not a tough team. Ovi is by no means the prime example of a team player, even now. But I'm just making an observation about the Leafs. I think they would have a really tough time with a few of the other top teams in the East, with the way they play. Look how good Boston is. Even tho Pasta is crazy good, they are not as skilled as Leafs, Pens, TB or Washington. But they have enough skill, enough depth and the way they play, they are just as good as any team in the league. Similar to St.L now and obviously last year.

 

You mean the same Boston team that won a cup with a miracle goalie and then got bounced a few times in the first round by terrible Habs teams that snuck in when the East was weak? Time changes a lot of things, who would of guessed most of that top line would look better closer to 35 than at 25.

I'm not saying Ovi is wrong about the way the Leafs players play, but let's not pretend that the Leafs would be guaranteed a cup if they blow this thing up. I'm not ready to do the Canadian team/fan supported "get close to competing and then blow it up" method. Sure, one of the kids might need to go at some point, but I want to see them miss once at least. See if it can be used to change some mentality on the team. It's worked before.
