Where is a pic of the porosity?

It’s pretty random. I picked up this 211 about 3 months ago and only has about 12 ish ib of wire through it. Swapped out bottles(75/25), swapped out wire, swapped nozzle and contact tip, changed gas flow rates in increments Of 5 from 20-40, changed regulators to a ball/float reg, checked gas lines for leaks, and still seems to give me random porosity at times. The silica (brown/tan stuff) that floats to the top of the weld also has a weird look. It looks almost flat, brown, weird looking as if air is being sucked in or something.

I’ve never had this issue with any other miller I’ve used consistently in the last 5-6 years. Making me loose trust in this machine because I feel like every weld is a gamble if I’ll have to grind it out or not. First few pics are with the 211, last pic Is with my old works miller 252.

These first pics are from test pieces trying to get the machine to operate correctly. Have tried cleaning material with acetone, grind millscale off, etc

Found two more. Too hard to edit/add these to the last post on a mobile platform :anonymous:

second pic is the porosity on the backside after being ground out (kinda hard to see) C5545366-C5EC-4353-BC16-F1129A5A794A.jpg 8C0D934B-834E-4E74-9B4A-576EE25EFEC2.jpg

Could it be contaminated material? Little oil or paint? The rest looks great!

Nice job putting this flatbed together. How was this kit to work with. I have been looking at them for a while.

I’ve been having this issue on multiple batches of material unfortunately. DOM tubing, 1/4” plate, mild tubing, etc

On the initial test runs I cleaned extremely well and ran with acetone multiple times. Spoke with the miller rep and he believes it’s either the torch or the gas solenoid acting up sporadically

Kit was by XO fab and was pretty good actually. Usually some of the notches or lengths can be off but this one went together pretty easy with the use of some ratchet straps to pull gaps together. Notches were good for the most part, some gaps but nothing crazy for a mig

That crossed my mind but the majority of the random issues have been random, can’t make a connection to any of them. Even perfect torch angles on a bench have produced the porosity issue. Hope to get the issue solved soon

Narrator: It wasn't square, 0xDEADBEEF still had some cutting and re-welding to do. *sigh*
Plan is to weld in some angle across the inside and then it'll be functional as a welding table that I can clamp to.

Then I'm also going to have a removable top that is a layer of 1/2" plywood, with a cut up rubber entry mat on top of it, with some sheet steel on top of that (maybe 20ga?). Should make for a durable stack that can take a beating and not soak up fluids, in theory.

Wood, rubber, and welding doesn't sound good!

The wood and rubber come off for welding. It'll make sense when it's done

Older than me, probably works harder too. Thanks, Dad.

I’m having the same issue on multimatic 215 (essentially same as the 211). Haven’t figured it out yet so I’ll be watching. Comes at random times too and while trying different things and no rhyme or reason

For those who own an air compressor, can you recommend a moisture filter? I'm starting to use more air tools more often.

I'm pretty happy with the cheap harbor freight one. The key is to get it as far from the compressor as possible to give the air time to cool and the water to condense out.

I use air tools all the time. I don't have a need for a water separator...yet. I just drain my tank once a week if I'm using it heavy. My shop is insulated and climate controlled, so I may not be the best to take advice from.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to get one of the HF refrigerated air dryers once I get the plasma table rocking.

I think that's the biggest thing, drain the tank on a regular basis.
