Sorry to hear that. Again, I also removed my spare tire and that improved my MPG as well.

I got 18 before I modified it. Knew it would go down. Doesn’t bother me any. Worth it!

Are these numbers trip average or tank average? I assume trip average..
Give us your tank average or your typical range

Buy a Toyota Yaris!!! Trucks will never get good mileage, if you have any armor on your truck or are hauling anything in the bed there goes the mileage...otherwise go downhill everywhere you go...I have 1/4" plate steel on everything on my truck (Thanks to Mobtown) and I live in an area that is excessively hilly (Small mountains) and I am lucky to 13 to 14 MPG. On the Delaware flatland's I get about 18 MPG

I may go with pizza cutters when im due to change my tires. I already have a set of sema TRD pro wheels in which are lighter than my stock rims and hopping to get even better mpg as well.

You know everyone always mentions the Cons of that 3rd gen motor & stock auto transmission. "mehhhh it's too slow"... "so weak"... "A-tune" ... "re-gear, blah blah blah"

Well how about you just accept it, and drive like a grandma, only then will you see why toyota did what they did to your truck. stock that crap gets 18 city and 24 highway very easy...
Shit even with my 265/75r16 E rated mud tires, full CBI bumpers front/back and sliders I get 16-17 city and 19 highway.

Some don’t realize improving mileage is a hobby for some of us, saving a few bucks is irrelevant.

Have been hitting 22 mpg on the way to and from work lately with a prinsu style rack mounted and a lift. We'll see how my new wheels and tires impact that.

Not sure if gas 'brand' has any impact on MPG, Im always putting regular Mobil since is very close to my job regardless of pricing.

I’m averaging 16.8 during Montana’s winter months. Like you, I drive very conservatively. I do have larger tires, but no lifts or other heavy mods.

The sport is rated for better mpg than the off road due to the valance & street tires - and the m/t is rated worse due to gearing. Also per a consumer report, soft tonneaus give a /worse/ mpg rating than the tailgate down or up - up being the most efficient. Not sure about a hard tonneau. Guess it evens out?

The brand shouldn't matter, but the ethonal content will. Ethonal gives less MPG. Pure gas costs more but gives better MPG. If you notice different mileage based on where you fill up, its likely because of differences in ethonal content.

BTW, on my last car it seemed like the #1 indicator of MPG was my brake pedal usage. I could accelerate hard without hurting MPG so much - as long as I was able to coast to a stop with minimal brake pedal usage. I would test this by watching the "tank average" right after filling the tank.

During my trip i noticed altitude didn’t seem to affect mpg but it definitely lowered power output
