My truck has had a shudder at around 1000-1500 rpms under light acceleration since day one. It kinda feels like when you let the clutch out too quickly on a manual transmission, that kind of jumpy, bucking sensation, but this is an automatic...From what I’ve seen on here it sounds like there’s quite a few of us on here experiencing the same issue. I’ve taken it into the dealership to have them tell me it’s normal, even had them submit a ticket to corporate. They hooked me up to tech stream and went for a ride with me only to tell me again it’s normal, and it could be a product of the fox suspension...Just curious who else is experiencing this, is it just an off road/ pro problem, or does it go down to the other transmissions/ trims such as sport, limited, sr? Also if anyone has figured out a fix I’d be forever grateful!

Mine has a distinct bucking at 1500rpm if i’m into the pedal - manual trans

Was also told it was “normal” roll eyes

It's "surging". Mine was pretty bad / consistent until I got the software update. There's a way to tell if you have the latest and greatest or not, the dealer may or may not be helpful...

Is your AT fluid full? A lot of guys complained about the underfilled tranny fluid from the factory.

You are using top tier gas station right?

The vast majority of gas stations in the US are "top tier". It's a voluntary trade association, basically.

Did you get TSB done on your 2018? It will help with handling the issue.

My truck did this all the time at low rpm especially if on say a 1-2% grade. Was the reason I purchased OVTune and it hasn’t done that sense and shifts so much better. Granted there are bugs in OVTune for 2019 trucks that will be fixed when 2.0 final is released but overall I have no regrets. That studded the trans did made me think the darn thing would wear out prematurely if something wasn’t done about it.

OVTUNE 1.05 version induced the issue even more.
Latest 2.0 is better and almost remove the shudder, but it still can be recognized under high load and low RPMs.
The trick to avoid shudder is to remove the foot from the pedal and apply again. This will unlock torque converter and help to raise RPMs

Doesn’t fix the low rpm shutter 100%. Ect will hold the gear longer on acceleration. However once you’re in the taller gear and drop speed it won’t downshift without enough throttle angle to make it do so. So if you’re going to accelerate to say 50 mph and then slowly drop speed with light pedal it’ll still shutter. Ect does fix the majority of it though but also holds gears in a weird way when just doing normal everyday driving on a stock setup.

My truck has yet to do the same thing a single time since I installed it on my 2019. Only issue I experience now are seemingly tune related with the wide open throttle cutoff at around 6200 rpm and the short shift from 3-4 in moderate acceleration.

Sorry for the late response, I do use top tier gas, 93 octane helps a bit but it’s still there. When I first got the truck I mostly felt the issue around 20-35mph, took it to the dealership and they applied a tsb (can’t remember witch one, but I’m currently 04a61). That helped for the 20-35mph range but seemed to push the problem up to the 40-55mph range. After a bit of driving the issue has come back at pretty much any speed if I’m feathering the throttle. Took it back to the dealership and had them check the transmission fluid, it was a half a quart low, didn’t help. I do have Ovtune, and it still does it across all tunes, stock, 1.05, 1.05.1, and 2.0 betas. As for the ect button, that’s what the dealer told me, I should just drive it with ect on all the time.

Or maybe they could just f***ing design it properly, right?

It is strange to have a shudder at 25-35 range. TC isn't getting locked at these speeds. Do you get shudder under any engine loads?
You can ask OV for a test file with TC always off and see if it removes. If not, something else is going on.

It’s really just in the 1000-1700 rpm range, under light throttle, like when maintaining speed. I believe the 2.0 tune has a towing setting that has the tc always off, was gonna wait and try that rather than bother OVtune while he’s trying to get 2.0 finished up. Plus can’t expect him to solve all of Toyota’s problems for them...lol

If the brand is in the list, the gas has the detergents in it. No matter what is going on in the bathroom, or with the sign attached to the bathroom key.
